The only way the government can take our freedom away, is if the apathy of the American people continue to decline as it has been.WAKE UP PEOPLE, AND SEE WHAT IS HAPPENING TO THIS COUNTRY, BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE.

Lets start with a fact you evidently aren't familiar with. The military does nothing it isn't first ordered to do. They aren't free to take any action against anyone or anything without direct orders from the President, with approval from the two Houses in Washington.

The fact that you are able to live in a country that even allows you to post a question like that on the Internet is proof that the freedoms the military has won for all Americans in the past, present and future are there for you, allowing you to raise that question in the first place. There are actually countries that would have government police knocking at your door right now to take your computer away and arrest you for treasonous activities for asking the same question! Don't believe it? Move to North Korea, China or most of Southeastern Asia and see how things work out for you over there!

Conservatives and liberals the two insist the U.S. militia is mandatory for freedom for all residing interior our borders. actual the founding fathers did believe in a voters militia. this is in fact what the Continental military grew to become into made from. yet situations replace. The improve of our defense force exceeded off as quickly as we've been attacked at Pearl Harbor, forcing us into international conflict II. as quickly as we've been helpful the defense force have been mandatory to maintain order in Japan and Europe as we in fact funded the rebuilding of a continent(Europe) and a rustic it quite is now, and has been, an financial rigidity interior the Pacific Rim. If we hadn't had a U.S. militia funded and logistically provided via the federal government we does no longer have been in a position to pass into international conflict II, and that i assure you we does no longer be debating precise now approximately despite if the U.S. militia is mandatory on your freedom. We could by no skill have been born and this usa could be talking jap or German, and you know what befell to those human beings's freedoms while the Emperor ruled in Japan and Hitler and the 0.33 Reich ruled Germany and Europe with an iron fist.

People in the US military swear to defend the United States against all enemies, so they are supposed to be protecting us from being under a dictatorship like we'd have if Castro or Saddam Hussein took over the USA. However, please understand that the US Military just does what the President tells them. Since the American President is an elected official, he should be acting on the behalf of the majority of Americans. Mr President hasn't changed his view on Iraq since before the last Presidential Election where he won by a majority vote of the people, so those who voted for him are getting what they asked for.

Do you recall the first Gulf War? Iraq over-ran Kuwait. Kuwait had a military -- well, sort of. All of that money, and very little to protect themselves. Our military is in place to protect and project our national interests. You have "Rights" and you are granted "priviledges." Rights, cannot be taken away. Priviledges can be denied at any time. Having a "drivers license" is a priviledge.
Freedom, as Jefferson wrote of it in The Declaration of Independence, is actually monetary. Understand that the more money you have, the more freedoms you have -- the greater your options. If you are poor, then you are enslaved to your creditors. Your greatest enemy is not the government or any outside influence. It is simple apathy.
You make it sound as if "Oil" is a dirty word. Here again, you haven't followed your history lesson or your economics lessons very well. You clearly have an agenda. But I submit that without a good and thorough background, your agenda is not well thought out.
Before and immediately after the 1979 Iran/Iraq War, the world's oil tankers passing through the region were often fired upon -- usually, by the Iranians at the Straight of Hormuze. Our then President, Reagan, recognized that the world economy relies almost exclusively on oil. He took it upon the U.S. to se-nd in the Navy to escort those tankers, regardless of country of registration, having first reflagged those tankers. This was to insure safe passage and stabilize the world's economy which again, is so amazingly dependent upon oil.
The current Gulf War, is little more than a continuation of the first Gulf War which was ended when Iraq agreed with the U.N. to a Cease Fire. Throughout the majority of the decade that followed that "end", Iraq often broke from that agreement with failures to adhere to at least 17 different sanction as put forth in the agreement. Sadly, the U.N. wasn't really all that willing to uphold their end of that agreement either. Several U.N. members, chiefly France, Germany and Russia were corrupt and accepting bribes from Iraq in the U.N. sponsored "Food for Oil" agreement. Our President then was Clinton, who himself was too busy entertaining terrorists from palestine and ducking and dodging his political wrong-doings to do little more than wantonly endanger our military personnel by keeping a presence in the region that was often fired upon -- I should know, I was one of those "expendable targets."
So having said all of this, my challenge to you. Look at ALL of the facts, review at least three decades of history in that particular region, review at least four decades of history of U.S. involvement in that region. You might start with the CIA backed over throw of Iran that put the Shaw on the throan there. Look up Eisenhower, Col Schwartzkauf (?sp) and move forward from there. Personally, my money says you don't have the guts or the where with all to actually do it. You'd learn more than you'd bargained for. And that is scary. Yep *sigh*, it IS all about oil.

The military is protecting not only freedom, but the Americans from enemies like the Muslim extremists. But you wouldn't know that since you are obviously uneducated in reality of the world. You love to think you live in a world where there are no enemies that would come over here any chance they get and kill us all in the name of their religion they twisted around and perverted. It is the military that rids the world of this evil. Freedom does not come free, it comes at a cost in many different ways. A big way is the fact the military men and women that give their lives TO PROTECT INGRATES LIKE YOURSELF!!

Who could take them away apart from our own government, you ask? So why isn't it the government that is insisting this and not the military? Don't insult the military, they're only out there doing a good job, insult the administration commanding them if you don't agree.

2006-12-23 15:02:40 · answer #7 · answered by Anonymous · 3 0

So that you can't oppose it. This way anyone who opposes the military will automatically be labeled as a "freedom hater" or some other played out cliche like that.

We need a military but I can tell you right now, any war that the US fought after WW2 wasn't fought for the freedom of America. Anything after WW2 was fought for economic interests, bad politics, or geo-politics. I take Veitnam and the Korean war as an example. Were the Vietnamese landing on US soil to take away freedom? No, of course not. Were the Koreans doing it? Nope. Those two wars, for example, were purely political and economical. They weren't fought because the US feared them. They were fought so that the US could force its will on them and their neighbors.

EDIT: The military is used more to protect US economic and poltiical interests than it is to protect freedom & even life. If the government and the military want to protect the lives and freedoms of Americans, they should come on over to any major city and protect the life and freedom there. Because 15,000+ Americans die every year from everyday street crime and other miscellaneous murders ON US SOIL. 10s of thousands of people are raped, tortured and terrorized every year because of Americans harming Americans and the local and state law enforcement is not doing nearly as much as it should be. There are some parts where people fear leaving their homes. Is that not a violation of freedom!?!? Crime isn't the only thing. Is thousands of Katrina victims not getting any gov't aid for 3 whole days not a violation of their liberties? Why wasn't the military there to liberate and help those people? You know what, the military and government need to liberate Americans on American soil before they go to Iraq trying to liberate Iraqis. Because Americans have it bad, especailly Americans living in urban areas. Children are being killed every day on the streets, why wasn't GI Joe there to fight the terrorists?

I have a greater chance of being terrorized by the people living around me than I do by a guy named Muhammed or Ahmed. How fu**** up is that? I'll tell you what, the military needs to actually protect our freedoms here before it can claim to be protecting our freedoms by invading nations that don't even threaten our freedom like Iraq.

your rights were given to you by your creator, and protected by the Constitution. You are right, only the government can take away your rights. Terrorists may kill you, but they can't stop you from speaking, assembling, voting, etc.

In order for someone to protect you from something, that something must be a threat to you. The terrorists have never been a threat to your freedom, therefore, the military is not protecting you freedom. It is a catchphrase to get people to blindly follow the policies of the Administration. (Just like the 'War on Terror').

The military may be protecting your life, but they are not protecting your freedom, unless of course, you believe that the Taliban, Al Qeda, or Saddam was planning to invade the US and install their own lawmakers in Congress to abolish your rights by legal writs or something. Otherwise, it's just a smokescreen.

If it wasn't for the Military either Hitler or the Japanese would have
won WWII and we would be living under Nazi-ism. Russia would also have taken control of the US so we could also possibly be living under Communisim.

I don't know about you or some of the others but I wouldn't want to be living under either of those conditions.

FREEDOMS ARE NOT FREE!! All it takes for evil to win is for good people to do nothing.
