Is anyone out there a vet? My dog hasn't been himself the past couple of days. He is more cuddly (he is usually indifferent). He has had a runny nose and been shivering as well. His temp is normal. Is this an emergency, or does he just have a cold?
Thanks!

I'm ammending this to zero in on more answers...
My dog has a runny nose and has been "shivering for the past two days. I took his temp rectally and it is good (for a dog). His behavior has been different the past couple of days (he is more cuddly where he is usually indifferent).
He has a vet visit scheduled next week, but I'm not sure if he needs to go to the ER or not. I am hoping this is just a cold? I called the ER vet and they could not give me any assessment over the phone, they said the doc would have to take a look (for at LEAST $75) and then make a diagnosis. I just want to know if these are common symptoms of a cold for a dog or if I should rush him to the ER. Thanks!

call the vet and tell them the symptoms, if it is serious take him in immediately. If it's not then wait it out! :)

He could have just a cold, but no one can really tell you for sure..they can poke around @ it and guess but the only person who can let you know is the vet. Why don't you try calling your vet and see if they can move the appointment up sooner than a week. I know when I have an emergency or something is wrongI call my vet and they try to fit me in the same day if not the next day. If you feel that this is something that worries you so much then it's best to take your dog to the emergency room.

I took my dog once to the emergency room, but it end up costing an arm and a leg for a sprang, something that perhaps could of waited for the next day to take her to my normal vet, but to me she could only walk on 3 legs and anything could of happened a broken leg or foot, who knows. I am definately glad I brought her in, even though it cost me an arm and a leg I think I was 100 dollars less than my vet too, maybe not.

Have you taken his temperature? If a rectal temperature hasn't been taken, then whether he has a fever or not is unknown. Keep him hydrated. If water doesn't work, most dogs will eat vanilla ice cream for fluids. Take him to the vet asap. It will be difficult but not impossible due to the holidays. I hope he gets better soon.
