God I can't beleive I'm asking a piercing related question here after reading some of the retarded responses about alcohol/peroxide are good and get your ears pierced at a "proffesional" at the MALL *with a gun, don't get me started* But on to what I need to know.

I've had the center of my lip pierced for some time, maybe like 6months but my concept of time sucks so I dunno. It's not technically a lip piercing, it's a labret, also called chinpiercing by those who don't know what a real pierced chin looks like *please consult bmezine.com* But the other day I noticed the gums on my front two lower teeth have receded. I know what this is because I *unlike many other piercees* do my homework before hand, but this is known as gum erosion.

Unfortuanately, I don't quite know what can be done beyond removing it *done* And I guess I'm asking should I go to the dentist or not worry too much?

Please, no retard responses.

Unfortunately, this is very common with this piercing. You can probably have a minor surgical procedure to repair the damage. If you do NOT have the repair, the area will continue to get worse - even without the piercing in place - and you may end up losing these two teeth at an early age.

Of all the piercings that people get, this one creeps me out the most, because I KNOW that the damage is being done and the victim is probably unaware of it.

The surgery should be no big deal, because - hey - you are into piercing and all anyhow, right?

My son is a tattoo artist and my daughter-in-law is the head piercer where he works. They are not children working for minimum wage at the mall, these are their chosen professions.

Go to the dentist. The erosion of your gums may have started with the jewelry rubbing but the chances are good you have bacteria under the gums. You could start loosing your teeth. Have a dentist check you gums out. Only a dentist can really tell you you have nothing to worry about., And I am betting you he won't tell you that. Receding gums can be a real problem.

I don't know but my friend with a labret piercing has it too and doesn't do anything about it.
