Because Scotland is a civilised nation and has always been socialist in its outlook. We pay higher taxes to pay for health care, etc. This is true of every nation in Western Europe.

America has a young economy, it is a great place if you are healthy but god help you if you get ill and you have no money.

I used to get annoyed about the price differences too but you have to look at the big picture, you are not comparing "like with like".

How do you compare civiliation with barbarism? - look at how many poor people there are in the states, would you like to see that here?

I can sympathize with you because i know exactly what you're talking about. It was in my travels when I realized just how fortunate we Americans are. Everything is so much cheaper in the States from food, clothing, vehicles, etc. Not only that but the accessibility of getting the things you need are affordable. We Americans complain about paying the price for a gallon of gas, but would rather have that than paying per litter. I guess the solution to your woes is next time you visit the States, shop till you drop :))

Rip off Britain. We get paid less, taxed more, and everything costs twice as much in the shops too.

Hehe - yeah my Dad once told me the car industry (of which Britain has none of its own.. all mass producers of any worth owned by foreign companies) referred to the UK as treasure island.

furnish and insist. in short the united kingdom is an island with constrained production and production skill. for that reason in basic terms approximately all products are imported. This drives up the cost of goods by using fact it introduces the intermediary, aka delivery expenses and import responsibilities (taxes). That reported usually circumstances the fees are hiked even extra via socialist regulations and value bottoms.

No, the dollar actually has MORE value ...that is why identical products cost LESS in the states. The pound used to be equal to about $3.00, now it is less than $2.00. Most consumer products cost more of a persons imcome in in the U.K. than in the U.S. Americans do not seem to understand that. They need to understand how expensive things are in the U.K. You could check on web sites that ship internationall for the shipping costs...but the other thing is...then you have to pay customs. i live in Mexico where the economy is awful. Consumer products cost MUCH more here than in the states. i just bought a computer in the states because it is so much cheaper ther...but also had to pay customs on it.

Well it dont cost £60 to send them over here. Probably cost £2 a pair for a little chinese lady to make. Then shipped to the US, They take their cut, then export them around the world. We then put a massive mark up on them. Then Gordon Brown has to have his tax out of us.

There is less tax in America then Britain on goods. Also inflation rates and the strength of the $ to the £.

Well, you and most of the Scottish nation decided to vote for high taxes and New Labour at the last election. You can't have it both ways, you can't desire high taxes and cheap goods.

Oops...sorry, I take that back, but you must admit (looking at the election results) a lot of Scots love voting for New Labour.
