I cannot answer for all, But I can answer for myself.
I would say "Joy" because whenever I need someone when there isn't anyone, I pray to Jesus for comfort and help, And he does help.
:]

Did you see "After Jesus--The First Christians" on CNN last night? On again today, & will possibly be a repeat. It was beautifully done (except for the images of blood & gore) & awesomely insightful. I believe Jesus--basically--brings joy to "orthodox" Christians, & people bring misery to themselves. The whole history is almost overwhelming if someone wants to get into depth--about how it all began--& what it is now. I knew something about the Gnostics; a mystical religious & philosophical doctrine combining Christianity with Greek & Oriental philosophies, & contrary to the times, (now I want to learn even more) valued women, but so did Jesus--Mary M. was a special disciple. But back to your question! I'd think that to "individuals" Jesus brings more joy, & comfort. As to the "masses" over time, & religious wars, far more misery! We're ugly to each other right in this category & that is a small example...

Jesus brings joy in that he sets an example of how amazing people can be to each other when they set no boundaries on their capacity to love. On the other hand he can incite misery because he represents a state of perfection that no matter how hard any person tries they can never achieve.

He brings joy because He is our only hope of salvation. Without Him, no one would get to go to heaven. And He never did anything to hurt anyone, so how could He bring misery? I think people who think that Jesus makes them miserable feel in their conscience that they should follow Him or that He is right, but don't want to, so they turn against Him. Or worse, people claiming to be Jesus's followers misrepresent Him sometimes, and make people hate Him.

I believe God brings both. *To the sinners, misery, because they deserve no kindness.
To the kind beings, joy, because if you bring joy to others, Jesus will bring joy to you.
That is what I think.

*You can still be forgiven if you are a sinner, do not fret.

Sometimes I think he brought me misery on a personal scale just by putting me here. I know, I shouldn't think that way, but I do.

Joy, because without His sacrifice we would be doomed to pay the price for our sin, which is spiritual death. He paid the price for all of us, so that if we believe in Him and keep His commandments, and confess with contrition when we don't, we will be with Him and His Father in Heaven.

Both. Jo for those who know God, and misery for those who don't.
John 3:36 "He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him."
