Yes.
I distrust those people who know so well what God wants them to do because I notice it always coincides with their own desires. ~ Susan B. Anthony

Yes "simpletons" ask questions like this because they lack the intellectual depth to explore the source for a first cause. Its just much easier to enter into a state of denial. The state is usual identified by their fear and the need for re-assurance of their position. Usually they express their fear through attempts at humor or a false sense of self importance.

It depends on where you are and what religion you are speaking of. Like many things, yes, it can be. Money, sex, power, and religion can all be used to control people. Oh, and drugs. Can't forget the drugs.

Yet it seems that people that ACTUALLY believe in what they say they're practicing (a scant 5-7% of people it seems) do the right thing their religion says and ignore the hostile things the other parts say and laugh at the nuts said religion produces.

For everyone else? FAITH HEALERS AND SNAKE HANDLING!

no man is by nature religious. So it is natural that a person will seek spirituality by many means. Has it ever occurred to you that one of them might be real? one of them might be true? If your talking about God are you talking abou a certain religion? There are some religions who don't believe in God at all. There are some who believe in millions of different gods. Your question could be more specific if you want better answers.

religion is what people make to cope with not knowing what happens when you die. And there's no wrong way to cope. Everyone wonders what happens after this life no matter what stage of life they are in. It's true some people use religion to control others but the only reason it works is because people have chosen to accept that religion as a means of explaining what happens when they leave this life and what they must do during this life to ensure happiness. In my opinion, no one is simple for ascribing to a belief or system of beliefs. They're just human.

Just when I thought kids would be in bed by now. But yet see this "simpleton" asking a dumb question.

Or just a way to control humans. It is sad really how distorted being a believer of a god has become. I am not christian, I used to be. It caused me alot of greif. I am now simply a follower of love. This is the common thread taught thru out all religion.

Exactly. I think religion, like pornography shouldn't be seen or heard by anyone under 18. Let them make up their own minds. But we all know that will never happen. Brainwashing is easier at a young age.
