I was wondering if they are similar in terms of how people live, both U.S. and U.K. Since the U.S. makes harder to get in, people may try the U.K. instead, would that be almost the same?

I guess that's a hard question to answer. The USA is so much larger and more diverse than the UK that it really depends on where in the USA you mean.

Quality of life in California for example, is much higher than in the UK (on average), but quality of life in other parts is much lower. The weather in the UK (more than half of all days are totally cloudy) has a detrimental effect on quality of life.

Higher taxes and lower wages for certain professions mean that purchasing power in the UK is a bit lower, but free/subsidised healthcare and other such services helps to make up for it.

The U.s. has a more diverse landscape, but it is pretty similar. Except for the endless suburbs, and hundreds of cities.
