Whats the difference between a Plasma TV, LCD TV, and an HD TV? (the difference in the picture and what it can do~not the technical difference)

HDTV is a term use for any type of tv that can display a resolution of 720p or more ( meaning at least a res of 1280x720 ). Plasma and LCD are 2 different types of tvs. Plasma and LCD produced excellent pictures but Plasma is a little bit better because it can display blacks more accurately than LCD. Plasma typically has better viewing angles than LCD. LCD does have some advantages over Plasma. It can have higher native resolution, consume less power, lighter and not susceptible to burn in.
As a general rule if you want to buy anything less than 37", get a LCD. If you want to get a 37" or bigger tv, get a Plasma.

If you want a 30" TV you will not find one. The closest available is a 32" HDTV. However in that size, there are no plasmas. There are only LCD's at that size. The LCD is cheaper, and probably better for gaming since you know there is no chance of any image retention, which a Plasma can get, eventhough its not really a big deal. Anyway, back to the point. An LCD will have slightly more grey looking blacks, than a plasma, and an LCD, a cheaper 32" LCD, will have a little bit of motion blur, but nothing too bad. Anyway, you have no choice but to go with a LCD in that size anyway, so really your question is already answered by the market place. Just don't cheap out and get a Vizio, step up for a Samsung or Sony, you'll thank yourself.

Lcd Vs Hd

The people who said LCD were right on target. Static images (images that stay on the screen for extended periods of time) can burn in on a plasma. One other considering you might want to think about: Samsung offers a game mode, which actually helps with the gamma from game boxes, and also cuts down on the processing speed. The benefit of this is that the picture processing that is normally done (and causes delay) will be gone, and you'll be playing "realtime" instead of waiting for the picture to be processed. (sometimes these delays take as long as a half second) In some games, this slight difference will keep Tony Hawk on his skateboard, and your soldier alive in Halo3. Sony is not terrible; but for the game play, definitely go with a Samsung. Good luck to you!

Essentially they do the same....if they are ALL HD!!

The difference that you MUST LOOK OUT FOR IS THE NATIVE DISPLAY RESOLUTION!!

A lot of the Plasmas and LCD TVs will only display 720 lines of resolution in their Native 720....Even a 1080i picture is downconverted to 720 lines....

What you want to look for is a TV with 1080 NATIVE RESOLUTION....that gives you the most detail on any source you connect to.

Plasma tv's tend to overheat. Go with LCD. Both are available in HD format.

Depends on what you want to use it for too. Lcd tends to suck at video games or dark movies. Alot of hdtvs aren't good at displaying current standard defintion sources like normal cable boxes, current gen videogames systems like xbox or ps2. Picture quality is very poor and comes out looking splotchy with the color very bland. Plasmas I am not as familiar with but its my understanding that they lose color intesity after about 4 or 5 years.

Yo why would you need to buy it when you can get it for free? I just entered these sweepstakes and got the free 42" Panasonic Plasma TV for free! I couldn't believe it. You can also get the 42" Sony TV, but I like Panasonic alot better.

Check this site out! You just need to enter your Zip Code.
