How painful is it to get a tatoo on the ankle? I know it depends on individual pain tolerance, but generally, how does it really feel like and will it hurt alot? I know certain parts of the body hurts more, and I was wondering if itd hurt alot on an ankle till it became intolerable?

k, first off, dont listen to the people who tell you not to get one. its your body, its your choice. I dont believe its a sin, I believe that was a bible verse taken out of context. Also, I have a feeling that by the time we're old and regret our tattoos, the methods of removing them will have improved, since sooo many people have tattoos now that they hate. with that said. I got my first tattoo on my ankle. It was the most painful thing I'd ever been through for 3 reasons. 1- I seriously underestimated the pain i'd be in, 2- I was in a REALLY uncomfortable position, and 3- Every time she tattooed, I'd tense up my entire leg, which made it hurt way more. if you're comfortable, and relaxed, it'll hurt, but not as bad. I got my second tattoo on my foot. i was way more comfortable, I didnt tense up, and I had an idea of what to expect....it went much better.

If you REALLY cannot handle pain, buy this cream called "emla" cream. You can find it at http://www.bmezine.com , go to their store section. its a topical cream. You put it on your skin and wrap the area with plastic wrap (or something that the cream cant absorb into) about 30-40 minutes before you go for your tattoo. It totally absorbs into your skin and makes it completely numb for over an hour. It's pricey, but trust me I know it works. I used it to get my second tattoo touched up and I couldnt feel a thing. it was great.

i have a rather large piece on my left leg that covers about 2/3 of my calf. the part that hurt the worst of the whole piece was the part nearest to my ankle and the part nearest to the back of my knee. so yes... it hurts down there, but it's not unbearable. it's not a tear jerking place but you don't really want to carry on a conversation at the moment either. just focus on your breathing and stay calm. you'll be fine. it also doesn't hurt to close your eyes. the more you can relax, the better.

I've been told that it's a very painfull area. The skin is thin, it's right on the bone. To see how it might feel for you try getting a clean needle and jabbing yourself a few times quickly in the area, and then picture that sveral hundred *maybe more than a thousand* times for every minute the artist is working on you. That'll give you an idea.

The tattoo on my ankle is three blue footprints. I have
three son's and I had three c-sections. I don't like any
pain but obviously the c-sections hurt worse than the tattoo did.

If you do it right on the ankle bone its going to hurt way worse than if you do it a little further up on your leg.

Just chose where you really want it and dont worry about the pain.

And dont let other people influence your decision by telling you its a "sin". Its your body, your choice.

I honestly do not know from experience but I have heard it hurts more on areas that have little fat. and the ankle is basically all skin and bone. so it would hurt pretty bad. and i also heard ankle tattoos wear out because u wear shoes and socks that are constantly rubbing against it.

I had a tatoo on the bottom of my back. And a friend of mine had one on her ankle.
I don't remember it being untolerable. It hurt a little, but nothing unbearable.

My freind said her tatoo felt like a knife cutting out her skin... but I think she was half joking. She said she would do it again, so it couldnt have been that bad.

Go for it

I don't have a tattoo on my ankle, but I just want to tell you that placement is the key when it comes to getting ink done. Do not get it in a place where you wouldn't want it seen on your wedding day or at a job interview. It's just tacky. I have one on my arm and I did anything and everything to cover it up and it still showed in my wedding pictures.

ok my sister got her tatto beside her spine up on the neck. so yeah. and she said it did not hurt super bad. but she is tough. my other sister said that her ankle tatto hurt. but i thought the spine one would hurt more. i was wanting to get a tattoo too but i wouldn't want to ruin my body. God didn't give us bodies to distroy. im not saying you are but make sure you think this thuroly. so before you do it, be sure you want it done. and dont get a big one on the ankle it won't look good. sorry but it is true. my sis's is small and it looks soooo good! they are stars and hearts it is so good. but we live in l.a. and the show miami ink, my sis was on the show. they did good on her.
