Ford lost business for the same reason all companies loose it. Poor management and financial planning practices. I read in Motor Trend that Jaguar is up for sale. Any takers?

People will probably give you weird answers trying to be cute/funny, but here is the actual reason:

Gas is now $2.25+ everywhere. Ford has many models that are not fuel efficeint, ie any pickup truck or SUV, and some of their passenger cars don't have that great of gas mileage either.

People are going with cars that offer better gas mileage. Now ford (and brands owned by ford) do have some good cars that are decent on gas. I personally own a Ford Taurus. Mercury has the Sable, and there are others, but when I think of Ford, I think of a pickup or an SUV.

Other car companies are putting more out units that are easier on the gas, and foreign car companies are becoming even more popular.

Another explanation is that people now-a-days don't have as much flexible income to spend on a new vehicle that costs $25 grand plus. This has to do with gas prices, the 9/11 stock crash, etc.

Or it could be that other companies are making better quality vehicles.

It probably is a mixture of the three things I have mentioned.

Hope that helps,
Tyler

because they let a boeing exec run the company. They don't payoff or lobby congress to keep jobs in the US. They dont educate their employees to become engineers to keep up with Japan and china, ( They have 3 engineers graduate to every 1 of ours. ) Ford uses quality parts instead of inferior ( low quality)metal like foreign cars use. And mostly why is FORD LOSING MONEY..... Their spending too much to improve, jaguar, aston-martin, land rover , volvos quality. Maybe if they'd just worry about FORD and spend money on FORD . I don't know about you but I dont ever care to own a Volvo, mazda, aston-martin, land rover, or Jaguar. I am an AMERICAN , I only buy AMERICAN brands. not a foreign car made in the US by americans but the dollar goes to toyota, etc.I 'm tired of hearing " Oh but we build the toyota in ohio so its really an american car." Ford isn't even helping NASCAR teams with engine R & D, they rely on Roush/ Yates engines. TOYOTA has spent more the last 2 years on its engine R&D than FORD, GM have the last 10 years. Its sad.... I grew up with both Grandpa's hating any foreign products , to now where everthing is foreign.

Ford Motors? Too much concentration on high profit but fuel inefficient cars and trucks. Better to ask why Toyoto is expected to become the world's largest manufacturer of motor vehicles in 2007, passing General Motors.... smaller, although pricey, very high fuel efficiency and reliable vehicles.

maybe someone will read this and learn. all of the above are good answers, but a lot of american buisinesses are losing $ to outsourced and cheap labor overseas. as much as unions did for us 20-40 yrs ago, its killing us now(our wages are way ahead $25-40/hr compared to$.50 - 5.00 outside the U.S) along with 2000% increase in medical. Also, the baby boomers are retiring and taking the poorly managed money that they earned with them for retirement.

Too many stupid Americans.. Can anyone remember when "Made in the USA" meant something special? The MPG and "quality" of the vehicles are only maginally different, but these stupid Americans will swear to the death that their Japanese POS are better.

People who live in the U.S. buy products from overseas.
If it keeps on, people who work in the U.S. will eventually loose their job, it has a snow-ball affect
What would you do if your wages were cut in half with no benefits?
