Because attending a church and serving with other believers is part of God's plan for his children. That's why the Holy Spirit gives us gifts.

1 Corinthians 12:7 To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. (8) To one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, (9) to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, (10) to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish between spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. (11) All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills. (12) For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. (13) For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body--Jews or Greeks, slaves or free--and all were made to drink of one Spirit. (14) For the body does not consist of one member but of many.

From a different point of view.

The sadness of a lot of the Churches today (but not all of them) are, set up to operate on some financial bases. The one thing that is hard to find today, is a church that will baptizes someone, because its the first step of obedience after accepting Jesus, without placing them on the church record as a member of that Church, where by ones tites and offerings are calculated into the church budget.

However, we are to fellowship with other believers. But this is a heart decision. All these things fall under works of righteousness, whereas, works themselves want save you.

If they told you that the churches would be empty .Going to church doesn`t make a person a christian ,and not going to Church doesn`t mean .your not .In fact it says somewhere in the new testament that we don`t need buildings of stone to worship god and it also says praying in public is pride (or something like that ) and praying should always be private .
Some one said that Christian churches all over the world do the tithe thing but i think that may be just America ,i certainly havn`t heard of it here (UK) they pass the plate round if someone wants to put money in they do but they don`t have to and its usually a pound or two .The church shouldn`t expect money Jesus made it clear money matters should be kept out of Churches ,that's why he threw those people out .

The bible churches I have attended do tell you that. Bible churches typically aren't "money makers". The denominational churches are all about overhead, committees, new pews, etc, and sometimes although they claim "not for profit", with the money they often take in I find that hard to believe. So if they tell you that you don't have to attend church to be a Christian they might not get your dollar on Sunday morning. BUT having said that I am sure God smiles when He sees you in the pew. It is His desire for you to grow as a Christian and attending church will help you achieve that

Probably because they've become so indoctrined in church until its all they know. However, while I agree with your logic about God and your serving him, I know that in order to get ongoing knowledge you probably would need to be somewhere that christian living could be taught to you through the scriptures. I hope u understand me. How other could you learn these principles except through learning from someone who is living the lifestyle to the best of their capabilities, so I think ministers simply feel safer about teaching these things in their own churches, synagogues, etc.................

To be a Christian, the Bible says you must believe that Jesus is God's Son, repent of your sin, ask for forgiveness, and ask Jesus to be the Lord of your life. You don't have to go to church to do any of that.
However, if you take a hot coal out of the fire, and set it over to the side, by itself, will it keep burning as hot and bright as it was when it was with the other coals?
Spending time with other strong Christians, worshiping, studying God's word, talking about problems, will help you become a stronger believer, and know more about God and your faith.

Because they have a responsibility for your soul. They oversee the flock. It is easy to get distracted and backslide when you don't go to Church. It is good to fellowship with other Christians.
