No offense, but they'll pick someone probably younger than 39, simply because they'll be in better shape and make a better choice to invest all the money and training. You might want to try reserves, if they have them. I'm 37 and considered too old for many departments, simply because they'd rather get someone fresh of college. I could do reserves, but then you might as well become a security guard, at least you're getting paid. It's a bummer, because I'm sure you'd be a good cop, but we didn't make the right choices early on and we're paying the price today for it. The Good news! It's a dangerous job and you're dealing with the worst of the worst in the world. Now, you don't have to deal with it. I mean, it's a stressful job and that's why you hear so many guys say they're ex-cops. They'll go into a different line of work. Here in CA, many dept's can't find people to do it and have to do radio ads, TV ads and billboards on the freeways.

I don't think so. I think you have to take a Police Officer Examination and in order to do so, you have to be under 35 years old. Go talk to a police recruiter and/or attend a police job open night and they may be able to help. I suggest you go to this website
http://www.nyc.gov/html/nypd/html/misc/employment.html
If that doesn't work, then perhaps look for a another police force that will accept you in another location, perhaps be a deputy in a county. If it doesn't work out, perhaps get a job working for the community, perhaps drug rehabilitation/prevention because they also help out to make the world a better place

Good luck

More than likely the answer will be NO! You need to go to college for your criminal justice degree and then get a job with a much smaller department. After you have about 10 years experience with a smaller department then you can try for NYPD. Not very many people actually get a job with NYPD.
