Possible - it snows in Iraq
Our son sent us home the pictures to prove it.
Ask for pictures and send him a camera in his next care package.
If the place is secure and well guarded - our troops are allowed a day or so of down time once their missions are complete and it is someone else's turn of duty.
No one but a robot can go 24/7 -7 days a week without losing their mind.

Well, the mountains are huge and there is lots of snow, but I don't think he really has the time or the resources to ski. I'd guess he is pulling your leg. Who knows, though, maybe there are some good hills on his base and he had his skis sent to him. I've seen guys set up complete golf courses over there.

Actually, he could very well be telling the truth. This website for the development of Kurdistan in Northern Iraq does discuss ski resorts. Lots of money flowing up there.

they have mountains in Iraq, the higher up you go, the colder it gets, the more snow you get. if there is a tall enough mountain in the desert, you can have snow.

They get snow and have mountains so I suppose it could be true and probably a lot less crowded too.
