I just ordered something that cost $8 and the delivery charge was $3. Should I have tipped the guy who bought it up, or does the delivery charge and salary cover this?

Gingin- it really depends on the hotel on how service people are treated. Also depends on local laws, and enforcement... We're staying in a middle-class chain hotel... and if I'd have known that the delivery charge would be $3 on an $8 item, I would have rather gone downstairs and tipped the waiter (who I knows lives on the tips), since it looks like the hotel will probably get the $3... I guess I should have asked management or just not have ordered!! When delivery charges haven't been so ridiculous high and hidden, then I have no problems tipping graciously :)

The room service menu will tell you if the gratiuty will be included in the service/delivery charge. It may be different for every hotel.

However, I would suggest with a 33% delivery charge, you might want to walk down to the restaurant.

No the $3 was the tip. LOL
We only tip for excellent service in Australia, not just anyone who does their job!

Just wanted to add a question, who does the delivery charge go to, if not the delivery guy? Things are odd in the US, people are treated poorly.
