Every older *think mid to late 20s* person I've met who has gotten a tattoo before their 18th birthday has regreted it, and most have had it covered up. Think before you ink, but if your heart is set, let's fill you in a little better with some facts.

A reputable tattoo shop will not break the law, and breaking the law would be breaking the skin of a minor, be it a tattoo or piercing, without their parent's consent. With that knowledge, if a parlor is willing to break one law, do you think they're going to uphold every other one? Sterilization is a big thing. People think "Oh, they dipped it in alcohol so it's clean" and that is so not the case. To be sterile it must be autoclaved, which is a process of heating it to the point past where all the bad microbes die *meaning if getting pierced, and the jewelry is acrylic, go somewhere else. plastic melts* Alcohol won't kill the bad bugs like HIV or Hepititis, those are what you really need to worry about. Do you think they use new needles every time? Do you think they'll answer honestly? Think of all the things that could go wrong going to a bad tattoo artist.

Really, if they break one rule is it that likely that they'll be up to date with all the things they should be? I don't think so.

Now if your parents are cool with it and they sign the papers and such, all you need to do is find a clean studio with an artist whos portfolio is to your liking. For tips on what to look for in a tattoo parlor, check out bmezine.com . That site knows everything you want to, and prolly stuff you don't. Wander through it's pages and see what can be seen.

Good luck with your tattoo, and I'm really hoping that you wait until you're legal either way.

You will not be able to find a licenced tattoo artist that will tattoo you if you are underaged without a signed consent from your parents (and most artists I know would not accept a consent unless they witnessed the parent signing it). Wait until you are 18, and use that time to really think about if a tattoo is what you want. It's not something easily undone and not everyone who gets a tattoo is happy with their decision.

Legally, tattoo shops in most states are allowed to give tattoos to you at 16 with parental consent. The only thing is a professional would never touch minor skin.

Your best bet would be to wait until youre 18.

Nope. Just wait until you are 18.

But if you must have a tattoo, tatto shops I have gone to will tattoo you if you are 17 with a parent signature not 16.

most shops will ink you over 16 but not 18 if a parent goes with you and signs a release

Ewwww.....a girl getting a tattoo! To me, any girl who has a tattoo looks like trash. No classy girl has a tattoo. There is a huge stigma behind tattoos. You should rethink getting a tattoo!
