Better sound, better picture among other things. Normal dvds are mastered in 480p resolution, Blu-ray and HD-dvd are mastered for HD (1080p resolution). Blu-ray dvd can also store up to 50GB of data on a disc. You will be able to bring up the menu system as an overlay without stopping the movie, and you could have the director of the movie on the screen explaining the shooting of a scene while the scene is playing in the background......

Blu-Ray discs have more layers and the blue ray can penetrate deeper and burn onto these extra layers. So a blue ray disc can have 25GB-50GB of data stored on it when a DVD can only hold about 4.4-9GB depending on how many layers it has.

So a Blu-ray disc can hold quite a lot more then a dvd or even a HD-DVD witch has around 15GB of data storage.
