i don't but they seem to hate catholics, from what i read in their books, and they wont give or receive blood even if someones life depends on it ! even thought the bible says that you should not eat blood but says nothing about receiving or giving a blood transfusion much less an organ transplant!

I was raised as one of Jehovah's Witnesses but I no longer practice. I suppose by definition that means I am not longer one.

To answer your question as one who has been on both sides of the organization the answer is basically ignorance.

Many of the responses to your questions contain mistakes. People simply misunderstand what you believe.
Others don't want to know. The problem is that Witnesses are very dedicated to getting their message out. They believe their message can help people. The other side of the coin is that the average person doesn't want help. They don't believe you have anything they need or want so the 9:30 or later (not 8 people) knock on the door reads simply as an annoyance. 'How dare they make me walk to the door and say no thank you I'm not interested.' Simply by knocking on a door that action implies that you know somthing your householder doesn't. Whether you know anything of value or not it still makes people defensive. They fail to realize that you got up early got ready spent about 5-6 hours that week in preparation (studying at the meetings and preparing your presentation) Many don't realize that you aren't paid but your balancing work, education, meetings, and the rest of your life so that you can try to help people you've never met and don't want to meet you.

If you believe what you are doing is right keep doing it.
If you don't then stop. Either way don't worry so much about what everyone thinks. Knock on all the doors you like but expect some people, maybe the majority to be insulted at your presence, others will be apathetic, some will be just greatful for the company and a few will want to hear you out and decide if your visit has any meaning for them.

By the way everyone being a witness has very little to do with not celebrating holidays or abstaining from blood. That's like saying being Mormon is about having sacred underwear or being Catholic is all about statues of Mary. Take the time to learn about other people and why they think the way they do even if you strongly disagree with them.

Oh and there was never any special kool aide.

In all honesty, the Jehovahs Witnesses ive had the pleasure of being around are usually much nicer and know more about the bible and Christ than the "average Christian". I dont see anything wrong with them.

P.s. I havent had a Jehovahs Witness knock on my door in probably 4 or 5 years, but I am visited every few months by Mormons or Muslims.

According to "Jim", I guess The Girl Scouts who come around trying to sell cookies could be considered "terrorists", lol.

It is true that Jehovah's Witnesses are not loved by everyone.
http://jw-media.org/newsroom/human_rights.htm
Some people hate Jehovah's Witnesses out of ignorance, or over some misunderstanding. A few may have had a bad personal experience with an individual who claimed to be a Jehovah's Witness, and prejudicially extended their animus to this entire Christian religion.

However, it seems that the majority of anti-Witness hatred is motivated by religious intolerance and bigotry. A few may even be motivated against their Christian worship by the unseen 'god of this system of things', Satan the Devil.

(2 Corinthians 4:4) the god of this system of things has blinded the minds of the unbelievers

Interestingly, such "hatred" should be expected by true Christians in this time of the end, and it actually helps identify Jehovah's Witnesses as Christ's true disciples:

(John 15:19) If you were part of the world, the world would be fond of what is its own. Now because you are no part of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, on this account the world hates you.

(Luke 6:22) Happy are you whenever men hate you, and whenever they exclude you and reproach you and cast out your name as wicked for the sake of the Son of man.

(1 Peter 4:4) Because you do not continue running with them in this course to the same low sink of debauchery, they are puzzled and go on speaking abusively of you.

(2 Timothy 4:3-5) For there will be a period of time when they will not put up with the healthful teaching, but, in accord with their own desires, they will accumulate teachers for themselves to have their ears tickled; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, whereas they will be turned aside to false stories. You, though, keep your senses in all things, suffer evil, do the work of an evangelizer, fully accomplish your ministry.

It seems signficant that the relatively small religion of Jehovah's Witnesses are the ones best known for their worldwide preaching work. Yet Jesus commanded that ALL who would call themselves "Christian" perform this public work:

(Matthew 28:19,20) Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded you. And, look! I am with you all the days until the conclusion of the system of things.

You know what the Bible says about the true Christians.

Jesus Christ left no doubt about what being his disciple would involve. “A slave is not greater than his master,” he told his followers. “If they have persecuted me, they will persecute you also.” Jesus was hated “without cause.” (John 15:18-20, 25; Psalm 69:4; Luke 23:22) His disciples could expect the same—opposition without justifiable basis. On more than one occasion, he warned them: “You will be objects of hatred.”—Matthew 10:22; 24:9.

In prayer to Jehovah, his Father, Jesus answers: “The world has hated them [footstep followers of his], because they are no part of the world, . . . Sanctify them by means of the truth; your word is truth. Just as you sent me forth into the world, I also sent them forth into the world. . . . the world has, indeed, not come to know you; . . . these have come to know that you sent me forth.”—John 17:14, 17, 18, 25.

“You will be objects of hatred by all people on account of my name.”—MATTHEW 10:22.

We just have to keep on doing what Jesus told us to do: "Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded YOU. And, look! I am with YOU all the days until the conclusion of the system of things.” - Matthew 28:19,20

With our help a prophecy is being fulfilled.
"And this good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come." - Matthew 24: 14

It's the same deal with telemarketers.

Because people don't generally like to be preached to unless they choose to be. The problem with Jehovah's Witnesses is that it is part of their dogma to spread the word, they are required to spend a certain amount of time or contact a certain number of people every so often to preach their gospel. Most other religions are simply content in their religion and see no need to have someone try to change their mind.

If you really are a fellow Witness then you should know that first off our numbers are still steadily growing so not all stay away. Secondly remember what the Bible tells us. Those who try to do what is right are often treated badly. Look at Jesus.

Nothing is wrong with JW's, but when they visit a home to Preach and discuss the word of God...it is a little bit nervey especially when I have my own religion that I practice faithfully and do not need conversion or reminders. Most of the time these visitors are nice and leave, but some get pushy when they want to make a point since you opened your door they want to get their say.....I wish I could put up a sign like:
No solicitation ...including door preachers too...please!!!!

Well, you know how people can be Sister.

I mean, we don't give up like Mormons after 2 years of door to door work.

Mostly I think, it is alot of misinformation by others and apostates.

We have standard of pleasing Jehovah that is of a higher plan.
His goals are lofty and thus, we get the brunt of what is written of at 1 Peter 4:4. Don't you remember when you started to adhere to God's Standards?

"Because YOU do not continue running with them in this course to the same low sink of debauchery, they are puzzled and go on speaking abusively of YOU"

Keep your chin up and be wary of those who would like to undermine your faith.

Your Brother,
Walt
