Why do adults assume teens can't fall in love? You don't have to be of age to be in love...it might not be a strong enough love to get married but I am 14 and I swear I have been in love...maybe not the love adults experience but I promise there was a hole after I broke up with him and i am still in love with him after a year and i regret my decision every single day

Yes they do..here's a story..

10th grade

As I sat there in English class, I stared at the girl next to me. She was my so called "best friend". I stared at her long, silky hair, and wished she was mine. But she didn't notice me like that, and I knew it. After class, she walked up to me and asked me for the notes she had missed the day before and handed them to her. She said "thanks" and gave me a kiss on the cheek. I wanted to tell her, I want her to know that I don't want to be just friends, I love her but I'm just too shy, and I don't know why.

11th grade
The phone rang. On the other end, it was her. She was in tears, mumbling on and on about how her love had broke her heart. She asked me to come over because she didn't want to be alone, so I did. As I sat next to her on the sofa, I stared at her soft eyes, wishing she was mine. After 2 hours, one Drew Barrymore movie, and three bags of chips, she decided to go to sleep. She looked at me, said "thanks" and gave me a kiss on the cheek. I want to tell her, I want her to know that I don't want to be just friends, I love her but I'm just too shy, and I don't know why.

Senior year
The day before prom she walked to my locker. My date is sick" she said; he's not going to go well, I didn't have a date, and in 7th grade, we made a promise that if neither of us had dates, we would go together just as "best friends". So we did. Prom night, after everything was over, I was standing at her front door step. I stared at her as she smiled at me and stared at me with her crystal eyes. I want her to be mine, but she isn't think of me like that, and I know it. Then she said "I had the best time, thanks!" and gave me a kiss on the cheek. I want to tell her, I want her to know that I don't want to be just friends, I love her but I'm just too shy, and I don't know why.

Graduation Day
A day passed, then a week, then a month. Before I could blink, it was graduation day. I watched as her perfect body floated like an angel up on stage to get her diploma. I wanted her to be mine, but she didn't notice me like that, and I knew it. Before everyone went home, she came to me in her smock and hat, and cried as I hugged her. Then she lifted her head from my shoulder and said, "you're my best friend, thanks" and gave me a kiss on the cheek. I want to tell her, I want her to know that I don't want to be just friends, I love her but I'm just too shy, and I don't know why.

A Few Years Later
Now I sit in the pews of the church. That girl is getting married now. I watched her say "I do" and drive off to her new life, married to another man. I wanted her to be mine, but she didn't see me like that, and I knew it. But before she drove away, she came to me and said "you came!". She said "thanks" and kissed me on the cheek. I want to tell her, I want her to know that I don't want to be just friends, I love her but I'm just too shy, and I don't know why.

Funeral
Years passed, I looked down at the coffin of a girl who used to be my "best friend". At the service, they read a diary entry she had wrote in her high school years. This is what it read: I stare at him wishing he was mine, but he doesn't notice me like that, and I know it. I want to tell him, I want him to know that I don't want to be just friends, I love him but I'm just too shy, and I don't know why. I wish he would tell me he loved me! `I wish I did too...` I thought to my self, and I cried.

It's not so much that you can't be in love, or what you feel can't feel like love, it's just that a lot of changes occur between when you're a teenager and when you're an adult (hopefully, anyway). You don't have a lot of experience in relationships as a teenager despite the number of people you've dated or the length of time you've dated them, and your idea of love changes drastically as you get older. Most adults assume teens can't fall in love simply because they recall in retrospect how immature *they* were by comparison. Think about how you felt about guys when you were 12, and how much difference just two years can make. Now think about how much 10 or 20 could! You also have to remember that being in love is very different from simply loving someone. Feelings are much more intense when you're a teenager because they're always right up in your face, not to mention the hormonal aspect (and I know, it's a stupid thing to say, but it's true). So what feels like love now may, in ten years, be looked back on as something very silly, which certainly isn't a bad thing, it's just the stages of development.

Of course teens can fall in love. Some fall in lust and that is what parents worry about. I met my husband when I was 14 and fell head over heals in love with him. That was 47 years ago, 2 children and 8 grandchildren. We have had a wonderful life with a strong foundation of friendship. If this boy that you are in love with is still around and does not have a girlfriend at the moment, I would tell him exactly how you feel. Don't go through life wondering "what might have been". Good luck...I hope it works out for you.

It doesnt mater what age you are. Love affects EVERYONE. Teens fall in love and in some cases more than most adults do. I know what you mean, I sometimes feel the same. But keep in mind you are young and someday you'll meet someone new that'll show you what love really means.

You broke up with him for a reason. Love is relative and believe me most adults don't know what Love is either. Graduate HighSchool, then finish college, the worry about finding and staying in love.

While it's possible for teenagers to fall in love, many of them rush to assume that their feelings of passion, lust, or infatuation are love.

Real love takes time, and it lasts forever.
Infatuation can be painful, and the memories may last, but the feeling dissipates after a time.

Perhaps you have been in love, but most people your age have not.

first off i see it like this...if you have a heart you can love. No matter what. Adults say teens cant fall in love because most of the time they dont want us too cuz they know dat can lead to sex and what you wont do you'll do for love meanin you'll start doin some crazy **** ova da one you love cuz you'll do anything to please them. Thats some bullshit teens cant fall in love. If we love parents, friends, cousins, brothers, sisters, then we can damn skippy have an intimate relationship wit love to. They just wish it wasnt like dat. But eh....it is what it is. Ya dig.
