...or do you give without expecting any gift in return? I never, ever, EVER expect the recipient of my gifts to have a gift planned for me, and I feel SUPER-BADLY when someone says...."Oh, ummmm, but.... I didn't get YOU anything...." ...........Your thoughts?

I think people say that because they feel it's the nice thing to say. But a true gift is given with no expectations or implications. And actually people might say that to you because, they feel a gift given is a sign that they appreciate the others friendship, and they don't want you to think they don't think of your friendship. BUT giving of friendship is the same as giving a gift, don't do anything just be there. I don't take it personally when someone makes that comment, I just smile and say that's ok. You didn't MAKE them feel bad their opinion on gift giving etc did.

No, I don't.
This year I decided not to gift a couple of people because in past years they get very upset and behave as though what I gave them is too good for them and they feel badly and say rubbish like, "Well, I'll have to make it up to you" or "I'm going to take you out to dinner". The strange side to this is that also gave me gifts, but react as though what they gave me wasn't good enough and they have to supplement it with taking me out to dine, etc.
It's aggravating, so I reckoned that's enough.

I give without expecting to recieve in return, it is gratifying of course when a gift is given in return, but true giving does not expect reciprocation. i think its in bad form to say " oh ummm but i didnt get you anything ", i would not say this, i would politely thank for the gift recieved and later on give a gift unexpectedly or something like that.

I give gifts to ppl that did need me some favors, to ppl that are indigent,to ppl that were nice to me,with out expecting anything in return. When I give I feel that nice high, and that's more than enough ..in return.

I give and do expect to receive. Many people miss their blessing by saying they want nothing in return and sure enough they never gets nothing. So by expecting to receive your blessing keeps on coming cause you have given out of a good heart.

Depends, when i give money to a business, I expect to get my product or service in an acceptable and timely fashion. When I give to the Salvation Army's Collection bucket, clearly I want nothing back for it.
