charity is one of the pillars of islam, but what's ur view about giving money to street beggars....at some places they are sent on streets to get money which later collected n given to higher authority,it's more like a business now..in such cases what should be done, should we give money when islam never prmoted begging..but promoted helping others.

while hazrat Ali(Allah be pleased with him) leading principle of life was to never scold a beggar and to give him whatever he could...

on one side it's intentions...help some one
on other side it's act ....begging

Christians, like Muslims have an obligation to help those in need. In our culture, we don't like people on the street approaching us for money. There are people in this country who make a living doing this. Also, people on the street ask for money so they can buy food or medicine, and when they get it, they buy drugs or alcohol.

I won't give money to a person on the street. If someone tells me they need money for food, I take them to a restaurant and buy them a sandwich. Some beggars get mad. They don't want food, they want money!

I want to help, but I don't want to be taken advantage of. I think most Americans feel that way.

Giving charity depends on your intentions. If you have the intention of helping out the begger (even though you know what hes doing is wrong) you still may get rewarded for your efforts. I always give beggers money because I don't know at which moment Allah will reward me. Eid Mubarak sweets! =)

Peace Be Unto you, sister
I was just reading about this topic in Ibn Kathir, we should give to whom ever needs, whether he believer, disbeliever, and not worry about what he does with it, (buys food, buys drugs) for if we gave with good intention (to please God) and not be seen of men then God will reward us for it.

I would say that the starving children are more worthy than American bum who had more opportunity.

But that is my opinion.

Salam
