I have 4 West African adinkra symbols on my stomach. One is a symbol of hope and faith, another a symbol beauty, another one is a symbol of God's presence, and the last symbolizes the importance of remembering the past and living in the present. How about you?

The first one I ever got was the side view of a blue rose, a drawing I made myself and which when I went overseas, I had it put on. That was 20+ years ago. 1 year ago, I had another blue rose put right over the old one to express a new chapter in my life. It was more painful than the first time!
To me, it has always symbolized a spiritual drifting through this world. Nothing is permanent. It softly reminds me to seize the day!

I am getting a small shamrock on my lower back, as well as my 2 best friends. The shamrock, or clover, has 3 leaves, and each of the leaves mean something: 1 leaf for being Irish, 1 leaf for being Catholic (the clover used as a symbol by St. Patrick as an example of the Holy Trinity, one leaf for each the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit) and one leaf representing me and my 2 friends (there are 3 of us all together).

I've thought about this for a long time and didn't want to get a tattoo just for the fun of it. I wanted it to really mean something, and it will!

I have 2 tattoos currently.

The first that I have is a tribal wolf on my breast over my heart. The tattoo has several meanings for me - the first because the wolf is my totam spirit. The second is because I was raised Jewish and my Hebrew name translates to "wolf" (was named after my great-grandfather who emigrated from Russia and died six months before I was born).

The second is a catalaya orchid on the inside of my left ankle. Orchids are my favorite flowers and in the Victorian flower language, this particular variety stands for refinement and mature beauty. Very appropriate, considering that I wasn't a kid when I got the second tattoo.

i have a tribal (i know, yawn) sun with a scorpion inside it. everyone who sees it asks me if i'm a scorpio, but i'm not. i just didn't like the lizard that was pictured inside at the shop, plus i didn't really want fish swimming around my ankle. it really has no meaning to me, other than i went through some frickin pain for it! it's on my ankle, and did not feel nice or numb after a few minutes. BUT, i would do it all over again, and i'm going to get a large one done. i didn't really think too long about the first one, but i really recommend it. i was 23, and it was a birthday present from my friends. i wasn't a kid, and i haven't regreted it yet, almost 6 years later. the area won't sag when i'm old, and it's not a cute one, because i am not a girly girl, and my hubby loves me for me. my next tat will be huge wings on my back, and will represent whatever i am feeling, whether it's the birth of my child, or just being me. we have no kids yet, but i would get something for him/her. i think that as long as you are old enough, and have thought long and hard about your decision, then anyone, man or woman, should get one. don't listen to people who don't have any, and just put down anyone who does. i have permanent art on my body, and i love it.

p.s. Even the "stupid" tattoos remind us that we were young, or drunk, etc once, and should still be kept on us to remind us that we are all humans, who make mistakes. there is always a story behind them. i went to TGIFs after mine to celebrate!

I have a leprechaun stealing a pot of gold on my right shoulder blade. The reason I got it is because I am 1/4 Irish and I am mischevious. I have no luck whatsoever even though I am 1/4 Irish. I like to surprise people and do things that people don't expect me to do and I don't like following the fashion trends and all of the other trends. I am thinking about getting the word Renegade tattooed on my right ankle because I don't like following trends. and I like to be my own person instead of the person the current trends want me to be.

I have a frog on my right ankle......I got it done in Chicago with my friends....so I always think of them when I see it.

I have a heart themed design on my lower back. I had it done in Florida, so I always think of our vacation when I see it. (Which isn't often to tell the truth!) Lol! I also think of a love lost.

I have my name on my left arm that has no meaning really. It was my first tattoo, and I wanted something small. I didn't know if it would hurt...and I was broke...so it had to be cheap. Lol! It does remind me of the night I went to get it though. :D

I have three boy's. After my youngest son was born two years
ago I got a tattoo on my right ankle. My tattoo is three
blue footprints. When I get more money for another tattoo I
plan to add on there names and/or birthdates next to the
footprint that represents them.
