My dad's chocolate cherry ice cream is the BEST:

Chocolate Cherry Ice Cream

2 c. half-and-half
1 c. whipping cream
1 c. sugar
2 squares unsweetened chocolate
2 eggs
1/2 c. chocolate chips
1 c. finely cut up cherries and their juice

Blend eggs with 1 c. of half and half. Heat and stir in sugar and chocolate until chocolate is melted. Let cool. Add 1 c. whipping cream and 1 c. half-and-half. Stir in 1/2 c. chocolate chips, 1 cup finely cut-up cherries and whatever juice they produce, 2 t. vanilla. Pour mixture into ice cream maker and crank.

HOMEMADE CHOCOLATE ICE CREAM

5 eggs
2 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla extract
3 (13 oz.) cans evaporated milk
1 (16 oz.) can chocolate syrup
Milk

Beat eggs until light and fluffy; stir in sugar, vanilla, evaporated milk and chocolate syrup. Pour into freezer can of a 1 gallon hand turned or electric freezer. Fill to within 3 inches of top of can with milk. Freeze according to manufacturer's instructions. Let ripen at least 2 hours. Makes 1 gallon.

After the ice cream has thickened, approximately half-hour later, spoon right into a container, and freeze for 2 hours.
