Some time ago my wife and i had some trouble trying to get help or direction from the american consulet in mexico, they where not americans running the office they where mexicans citizens, and had no plans of helping us in any way, i lived in mexico for almost 3 years and during that time in mexico city americans citizens living their had problems with them as well and it ended in broken windos and many angry people going to jail, and no they would not put it on american TV but it happend in 2001, no matter what is said on TV the bottom line is immigration makes their own rules as they go, and for every document you send in you only get to wait one more year per document, and if you come forward and say you did anything wrong you get even more punishment, especialy if shes latina, family unity is a bald face lie, i'm american with an approved I-130- and still looking at more years of waiting for what reason, distruction of familys is very very wrong, why is this allowed to contenue??

it only took 4 months to get that back ground check and a approved I-130, why drag peoples lifes out so long and cause many many people to lose hope and devorce ruining what could have been a good marriage, its all just a big waiting game to make you give up, seams to me that if you passed all the income and background checks it should be a done deal-- here in the states if anyone else caused me the pain and suffering immigration has, i could have filed charges and won the case, their is a dissreguard for immigration laws because people know that you can never win doing it the legal way, you will die of old age first, thats why the mexican people break the law because they see how the drugs get here for profit and they feel its wrong, we want their cocain but not them, they see every day truck loads pass the check points with no trouble, and as an american i want to know why my wife can't come home but its ok for a load of pure cocain to drive to mid texas, just tell me why?

Because even family have to wait their turn, it is just a shorter wait. We only let so many poor people in each year because we have to support poor people disproportionately to their tax contributions. We let in a lot more than Mexico does, though.

I agree I would rather have your wife than the cocaine or the illegals. However, because there ARE so many illegals, there is less room in the system. My problem is the schools though, and your kids would belong in them, anyhow, so I'm not against you, at all.

Sad to say this, but you should have chosen a European wife. For a European the wait would have been a few weeks, if not automatic. Families are broken up on a daily basis. It is old news. Best of luck to you.

The system has been broken for long time now.

DAR: You sound like you value education, but I wonder if you fall victim to the 'yeah, he gets good grades, but has no common sense' arguement. Most schools are funded on a per student basis. Meaning that if they have many students, they will be given more funds. However, it does not mean that if there are more funds than students that the surplus will be returned to the tax payers. If the latter happens, then the surplus will go into buying new stadiums and arenas for your local teams. Perhaps, it will go into funding studies as to why people hate to pay taxes. Just remember that those little illegals are just as much the future of America as your own kids. Those little illegals are perhaps greater gambles, but some of them will pay off.

Actually, it is extremely frustrating as well as heartbreaking. Some of the laws/procedures/rules can only be termed extreme. I'll give you one example. People who got their green card thru a relative, will have to wait for 5 yrs before they are eligible to apply for citizenship. However, people who were in the US illegally and got their green card thru Amnesty, they needed to wait only 3 years! So for breaking the law, they were rewarded!

Now try to think this way:
1) Laws are passed at different times and therefore, there could be some discrepancy as was with the 3 and 5 yr waiting period.

2) In your case, you need to make sure that you have ALL, I mean ALL of your papers ready, each and every question answered on forms, or at least say N/A. Do not produce the supporting papers unless asked for; hold them in your briefcase. If asked, pull them out and hand them...only the one they asked for.

The consular folks handle so many people that they cannot provide the expected level of service. And these people with whom you come in contact with , they can do NOTHING about the laws.
