How do I get her to take her tempature by mouth? She wont keep it under her tongue. She is to old to have it taken rectaly.

I think she is probably too young to understand the concept. Try an ear thermometer.

If she really won't let you do it by mouth, you could always try an ear thermometer, or take it under the arm with a digital thermometer. Just remember to add a degree if taking it under the arm. You could also try one of those pacifier thermometers if you get really desperate

You can still do it rectally. 3 is too young to take it under the tongue. Mine were around 5 when I started. You could also take it under the arm. A temp of over 98.6 underarm is considered a fever.

when my 2 year old wont put it under her tongue I put it in her arm pit, a nurse told me its pretty accurate usually only 1 degree off :) And its easy to hold her arm close to her body to take the temp :)

Try coating the tip of the thermometer with sugar water or do what I do and stick it under her arm

Putting the thermometer under her armpit will work just as well...
or... if you're desperate, you can always buy the $50 ear thermometers(or whatever amount they cost) :)

They have the thermometers that you wipe on the forehead at walmart and they are the ones alot of Dr offices use.

I have a 3 year old niece and she is very smart. We just explain it to her and tell her that I (her favorite Aunt) will do it with her. She always lets us do it. Hopefully that will work for you too. Good Luck! I hope your baby get's better soon!

Tell her to open her mouth and put the thermometer under her tongue. If she refuses, whip her butt.
