There's a girl at school, Emily F., that I think is cool and very sweet. We both are in the school band, and play the alto sax. I also seem to like her a lot. Problem is, one of my really good friends likes her also. My dad has tried giving me advice to ask her to the movies and hang out with her for a while. And he says to approach her and tell her how I feel. But when ever I think about doing it, I get a sick feeling in my stomach, worrying that she wont like me back. Please give me advice!

Yeah, the guy you're describing was a younger version of me not so long ago. I had crushes too, but I never did anything about them because I was too nervous or too insecure or felt like I would be humiliated if she didn't feel the same way. Trust me, I know the feeling. And everytime it happened, some other guy would swoop in and snatch her up and I was always left thinking "what if?". It wasn't until years later that I learned a valuable lesson I should have learned much earlier: that if you don't take a risk you'll never get what you want. Look at it this way, if you see something you want, you go for it, even if it makes you neverous or even scared. No there is never any guarantee you'll get it, but you'll at least have some self respect that you tried. But there is one thing that is guaranteed, if you do not take a chance, someone else will, and will walk off with your prize. Maybe even your friend.

You are just afraid my man. The guys who do the best with girls are the ones who ask out alot of girls. Your dad is right. As for your friend......At this point is an open competition. You snooze you lose. Find out what kind of music she likes and take her to a concert. Work the music angle. The sooner you get over the stress of asking chicks out the more comfortable you will be around women. IE. you will get more women. If she says no.......It will be the first of many rejections you will have through life. But she can't say YES if you don't ask. Good luck don't let us down and punk out.

Many people who answer this question are going to support you and tell you to just ask her out. The worst thing she can say is no, and if you don't ask at all, it will never be a "yes". People get sick feelings in their stomachs all the time--it's normal and i guess you just have to be brave and ask her. If she doesn't like you, it's her loss. Believe in yourself...you can do this! ^_^

Listen to your gut feeling. You are too young to be getting involved with a girl. Finish your education first.
