In addition to waiting until it's quite dry, I would do a "test" piece before you do it on an actual piece you spent your time and talent on. That way you can judge the effect before you go ahead, it may not be the effect you really wanted. And make sure you use a VERY light hand with that spray can or you can end up with runs and drips.

yes if it is not an important work that Will be sold

no, if you are planing to sell it,at some time down the line of natures life cycle, the varnish will need to be removed,

therefore I suggest you pass over a hand of acrylic medium to finally bond the work together & then after a week varnish your work!
