There is an old saying "9 out of 10 males masterbate and the tenth one is a liar" While your mom may be uncomfortable with the topic, all males do it. So, don't buy yourself any guilt over it and don't allow others to make you feel guilty about it. It's perfectly normal even thugh ts not a popular topic of conversation. Its self-intimate and private. Its something that you should do in private for modesty sake. If your mom is not a prude, she may be able to talk to you about it candidly, but there is a certain element of embarrassment in the conversation. Hopefully, she will be an understanding and modern mom.

There is no way to predict how a parent will react to a son or daughter trying to engage them in a discussion of sex and things sexual. Some parents are really open, will explain things in detail and feel completely comfortable doing so. On the other extreme we have the true prudes who believe sex is a private little thing that should never be discussed or even though about who will totally freak out at any attempt at their children trying to find out anything about the subject. And it matters not whether it is mothers or fathers, both have their own beliefs and hangups and all that.

So the best you can do is drop a few hints or suggestions - possibly comment on a movie or tv show that mentions or impllies what you want to talk about and see what kind of response you get. If positive then proceed, if bad, then find another source (doctors can be helpful) for information and assistance.

Personally I am one of th eopen types and in some ways will discuss in more detail than the kids. But that is just me. Others I know seem to prefer their kids learn it in the gutter since not only do they not talk about sex but they don't want it taught properly in school either.
