I believe there's a Cuban drink with sugar and mint (unless I'm mistaken). I would use a tumbler and fill with ice. Add rum, maybe a teaspoon of fine sugar and crush a couple mint leaves and stir in. Hopefully, I've got this right.
Another idea is to buy some very high end run (30 - 50 dollar bottle) and just sip it straight over ice.

Rum goes best with simple flavors, juices,cola's and limes. Try this recipe 1 shot Bacardi O, 1 shot Midori, Cream, pineapple juice and Triple sec. Shake over ice or blend. This is a "Pure Bliss" enjoy. Screwdrivers are Vodka and OJ. Your rum and OJ drink is called a "Shrub!" Usually as a punch. Hope that helps?

Best two rum drinks I know:
Mojito:
Fresh mint
sugar
rum
Put sugar and mint into a glass and muddle it or stir it until it is blended together. Add ice and rum. Add more sugar and mint to taste. Also works GREAT with flavored rum (melon, mango...)
Combo of Hurricane and Mai Tai:
1/2 oz. of silver rum (Bacardi)
1/2 oz. of spiced rum (Captain)
1/2oz. of Coconut rum (malibu)
1/2oz. of grenadine or cherry juice
Fill with OJ and Pineapple juice
Shake and float dark rum like Meyer's on top

Screwdrivers are made with vodka. Rum and orange juice is a nasty combo. Highballs are made with whiskey.

Or, my dad's recipe for Hot Buttered Rum is the BEST:
Here’s Jim’s recipe for Hot Buttered Rum. He insisted that the very best hot buttered rum consisted of hot cider, seasoned with cinnamon and cloves and covered with melted butter.
Hot Buttered Rum
Apple cider (if you simmer spices in it first, it’s the best!)
a finger of rum
a pat of butter
Pour the hot cider into a heavy mug. Add the rum and quickly put the butter on top. Sip slowly.

well first off cant make a screwdriver with rum. but you can make hurricanes and of course rum and coke. try webtender.com they let you put in everything you have and it tells you what drinks you can make with what you have.

Hot buttered rum is very seasonal. You can also add it to hot apple cider for a little kick. If you make and drink (and share) one of these drinks, you'll look festive instead of just drunk.

mojitos are my favorite:
4-5 of mint leaves, no stems.
a teaspoon of sugar
and a few squirts of lime juice.
muddle all those ingredients together and add ice and 2-3 oz of rum. spritz with club soda if you like, but i like it stronger without the extra water.
