Controversial, indeed. Well, because the Department of Defense (well, from the President actually) says we can't. That's the company line answer, I guess. But why that decision was made... who's to say? If the "war on terror" continues the way it has, though, I wouldn't be surprised to see that policy changed within the next few years. Regarding your comment about the discrimination of it - the military is one of very few organizations that legally CAN discriminate. We also have height and weight standards, among many others. A person who's 5'5" and 280lbs would not be allowed to join for... c'mon... obvious reasons. The lesbian/gay scenario is just that, it's only another disqualifying factor to us. Beyond that it's not for us to debate. Vote for politicians who might seek to change that law (if there are any).

There is NOT a THING wrong with G&L in the military; If they carry their WEIGHT and NOT carry their sexuality as a flag of honor to bring increased acceptance.
I do NOT care what they do on their own time; they had just be there to cover my back when needed and I don't care what they did otherwise.
There is NO PLACE for "flamers" in the service.
The whole problem with the G&L MOVEMENT is that they have become CONFRONTATIONAL in their push to be completely accepted.
The hetro's just really do NOT care what you do behind closed doors. We don't have parades exhibiting our sexuality, you know what I mean and it is annoying. It is just TMI for me.
A bunch of guys shower together naked and to think one of you is checking out the equipment is cause for concern, particulary if he is on the hunt. Sorry but G&L are the horniest people to walk the earth.
The worst are the BI's because it doubles their chances to get layed and they can pick and choose the available sex necessary to get satisfaction in whatever form.
You cover my back, I do NOT give a RATS *** what you do otherwise. If you screw up then there will be serious retribution.
I hope that this answers your question and MERRY Christmas.

We don't allow the blind, disabled, or insane into the military either... it is not a RIGHT to join the military, therefore to restrict them is not discrimination.
They are currently restricted because there are STILL laws in the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) that forbid sodomy. It is the job of Congress to remove that law.
Note: The US Supreme court only struck down the sodomy-law in the State of Texas in 2003 (14 states still had sodomy laws in 2003)!!... and 24 states still had sodomy laws as of 1990 !!
The logic of the Pentagon was also that in the 1990's most of those who volunteered came from those states (and cultures) where homosexual behavior was illegal or unaccepted... and that therefore the introduction of gays / lesbians would not be conducive to good order and discipline.
And if you have NOT served... NOT spend 6 months packed into a room the size of YOUR bedroom with 9 other people packed floor to ceiling beds... talking with them and no one else... you simply don't understand.
I served 15 yrs and knew of 3 guys... all caught. Including a damned good aircrewman / operator who came out in 1992 for Clinton... and killed his career. I had also worked for 6 years before the Navy as a stage-hand and worked with many gays... from flamers to closet-cases.
Do I THINK they should be allowed to serve... YES. Will the military structure accept them... not for another generation.

There is nothing wrong with it. The military is losing a lot of fine soldiers and sailors and air force personnel because they are stuck in the eighteenth century or before. Women have been fighting in combat since Roman times, but for some reason the military and political minds are still saying that women are the weaker sex. And as for gays, just recently a General was forced to retire when it was found he was gay and he had been in the service for 20 years.

I don't think the Armed Forces is ready for it. Plain and simple. Someday, maybe, but not yet. I'm a 20 year Army Vet. and I know I sure as hell am not ready to accept it, but I probably will tolerate it it in time. And thats just the way the Military is, like it or not. The "don't ask don't tell" policy is fine for the time being. You got to crawl before you walk and the Miltary is still crawling in this respect. Give them time. People just need more time.

Technically, you can be gay or lesbian in the military, its a dont ask dont tell policy. I am unsure of the real reasons....but i would assume it would probably be for their own safety. There are to many people who hate for no other reason then because they can. If soldiers bunk and shower with a person who is gay, they may feel uncomfortable, or worse yet, beat this person up just because they chose a different lifestyle. I have only known one gay person in the military who was openly gay. People gave him respect, but not everyone.....he had it rough at times. I think its stupid honestly....but thats the way it is, and i doubt that policy will change.

"Why are many gays and lesbians interested in comparable intercourse human beings that do each thing they'd to appear like the alternative intercourse?" lower back, no longer the case. i'm a gay male, and my significant other is likewise a gay male, whether he develop into to positioned on a gown, he could nonetheless be a gay male, and its the fact that he's MALE that counts to me. yet he does not positioned on outfits, and is in basic terms a miles better finding than in many situations occurring guy. "Why do many homosexuals experience the would desire to have their sexual orientation authorized or confirmed by the inhabitants oftentimes?" How could you experience in case you have been spat at, or refused service, purely with the aid of fact of who you have been on a date with? "As a gay male do you experience any legal duty to no longer make immediately adult males uncomfortable?" i do no longer do something it quite is all that distinctive to what immediately adult males do, while you're uncomfortable with immediately adult males kissing their significant other, then you are the only with the concern. i'm no longer interested in right now adult males, I have already got a miles significant other, and in case you have a situation with me exhibiting him some affection, then it quite is YOU who has the concern. This international desires greater love and affection.

There is nothing wrong with it. If you want to fight for your country than you should be aloud to fight for your country. Even if your a homo or not. But you have conservatives who are very religious on not having gays in America. Which i personally don't care about. I am mostly conservative but that is one thing i disagree on. I believe in gay marraige. Right now i think we should just allow it and focus on how to end this war!!

You're right, now, if they do start the draft again, do they let someone off because they are gay, how many will say that they are to get out of it, and how will they prove that they are? It will be their job to prove it. Is it fair for you to go to fight when some gay guy doesn't because he's a rump ranger.

There is nothing wrong with it. Provided they follow all the rules and instructions of the military, to not allow them is discrimination.
