I would buy a grinder and then buy fresh roasted espresso beans either online or from a local roaster. Remember that the grocery store beans have been sitting around a long time and wil lose their fresh roasted flavor after about 3 weeks( even the vacume sealed.packages). you can find a great coffee for a lot less than 6 to 8 dollars for 12 oz if you shop the internet. Make sure the grinder will do a fine grind.

You want two things. First you need an espresso roast blend. Don't just buy any dark beans or a dark roast. Buy a good espresso blend which typically draws on a variety of varietal coffees to get the right taste.
Second, you need it ground to a an espresso grind. If you have a good burr grinder you might be able to adjust it for this. Otherwise, have this done at the coffee shop.
Buy fresh roasted beans as coffee beans begin to lose flavor quickly after the grinding process.

Go down to Starbucks and buy a bag of Starbucks Espresso Blend. Starbucks roasts its espresso much longer than anyother coffee company to give it alot better flavor and it makes better drinks. You can get a bag and have it ground fresh right there. Just ask the person to grind it for an espresso machine. Enjoy!

As long as the beans are Ground to Esspresso grind then all you need to decide is what flavoured beans you want.
French and Italian are very rich beans
Blue mountain is very nice yet very expensive
But for Quality and Expense you should try the columbus blend

I would advise you to invest in a grinder, buy your coffee whole bean and store it in the freezer until you are ready to use it.

You could use any kind / brand of coffee that you prefer. My favorite brand of coffee is Boca Java. I buy it online off their website.
