Someone's answer about the Bible knowing things ahead of its time said that it mentions the world being round. I'm very curious. Where?

In the Old Testament, Job 26:7 explains that the earth is suspended in space, the obvious comparison being with the spherical sun and moon. [DD]

A literal translation of Job 26:10 is "He described a circle upon the face of the waters, until the day and night come to an end." A spherical earth is also described in Isaiah 40:21-22 - "the circle of the earth."

Not sure of the verses...

In psalms it says that our sins are 'seperated as far as the east is from the west'... hinting that the is no end in any direction (roundness)

Written about 1000BC

In Isaiah it says that God sits upon the 'Circle of the Earth'.

Written about 750 BC

Also in Daniel it describes the Earth's shape.

There's other cool stuff about the earth. Recently scientists have made theories that there are like 11 dimensions in the universe, and that the last few curl up.

Psalms says "Your realm, O Lord, curls up in the heavens"

Do some research though. A lot I learned from this guy's cool expierience:

Quite the oppisite.

Daniel 4:10-11
"Thus were the visions of mine head in my bed; I saw, and behold a tree in the midst of the earth, and the height thereof was great.

The tree grew, and was strong, and the height thereof reached unto heaven, and the sight thereof to the end of all the earth"

This is only possible on a flat earth. If God did indeed write the Bible, he sure seems to have about the same level of understanding of his creation as.. oh.. say a first century goat herder.

What a coincidence.

As far as I know, it doesn't. The bible was not intended to be a scientific treatise on the planet's geo-history and shape. However, it took the Catholic Church some 2000 years after the Greek phiosopher Eratosthenes proved it was round and even measured it's dimensions to remarkable degree of accuracy.

I don't remember the Bible actually saying that the earth was round. But pictures from outer space pretty much prove that.

Isa 40:21 Have ye not known? have ye not heard? hath it not been told you from the beginning? have ye not understood from the foundations of the earth?
Isa 40:22 It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:

Isaiah 40:22 He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth, and its people are like grasshoppers, He stretches out the heavens like a canopy, and spreads them out like a tent to live in.

I says it's flat a few places. One of my favorites is when Satan takes Jesus up to a very high mountain where he can see all the kingdoms of the world. At the time this would include China, Mayan, N American Mound Builders, Norse.... How does this happen on a round earth?

the heavens were viewed as in Egytology as a Tent showing they too thought of the sky as a blanket not dimensional

the story of "god" stopping the sun moving across the sky for an hour says VOLUMES of thier thinking and comprehension

also points to thier humanity and errant ways to rule others and slay all "infidels" or anyone who opposes them, like the Borg

yet, they too fell by the sword

and even Jesus' words say the same
