How do I fix this problem? I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Bit Torrent but to no avail. Plus, my download speeds went from 148kb/s to a crappy 1 or 2 kb/s. I have no idea what happened. Help?!

Zone Alarm is a program that blocks open ports on your internet for increased security.
Bit Torrent uses ports in order to work, so you have two options.
Close Zone Alarm when you use BT, or unblock the port(s) that BT needs in your Zone Alarm Firewall software.

LOL - there's no such thing as a free lunch! If you're going to steal files (oops, I should say "share" shouldn't I?) you'll have to deal with the problems as they arise.
