The church refers to those who belong to Christ. The church was around before the Catholic church was invented.

The Catholic Church was founded around 33 AD by Jesus Christ. This is a historical FACT.
The first RECORDED use of the term "Catholic" to describe the universal character of the Church is found in the writings of St. Ignatius of Antioch in 106 AD. He was ordained by Peter and was a student of St.John the apostle, so I would think he would know what he is talking about. This is the quote form St. Ignatius to the Smyrneans, paragraph 8, of 106 A.D.,
"Where the Bishop appears, there let the people be, just as where Jesus Christ is, there is the Catholic Church."
Constantine would not be born for another 200 years.
Acceptance of the books of the Bible was a gradual process. The Gospels were accepted first, then others. Hebrews was not accepted as scripture for 250 years after it was written.
In 397 A.D., the Catholic Church gave a definitive decision as to which writings and books should be admitted into the Bible and which should be rejected, and every book which is in the Protestant New Testament today, was put there by Pope Siricus and the Catholic Bishops in the year 397 A.D.
Constantine had been long dead, buried, and eaten by worms when this happened.

Sure there was sweetheart, Christ established it, what do you think he got baptised for? There were even temples and churches before Christ. When he was crucified along with all of his apostles the gospel was taken from the earth hence the dark ages, then in 1830 it was restored once again, funny how the LDS church is the only one with prophets and apostles now days and look at all of the blessings that have been poured out onto the earth since then, just sit back and think of all of the marvellous things that have been invented and brought forth since the restoration of the fullness of the Gospel. Not to say that other religions don't have truths to them, I feel that as long as you believe in God and are doing all that you can do to be more like Christ, weather you believe in him or not he was an amazing example to all mankind, then you are on the right path.

i do not precisely deny it, yet I do question it because there is scant data to help that declare, even although that is often said as although that is a truth --it isn't depending upon scholarship. For argument's sake, enable's say that is authentic that Christian holidays were set on the dates of previous pagan holidays. So what? it does not make the social gathering of the beginning of Christ any a lot less significant or valid. besides the indisputable fact that, the historic documentation to help the declare that Christians stole this date basically isn't there. in truth, interior the case of Christmas, the opposite is shown. for instance, the earliest written factor out of Sol Invictus being on December 25 dates from 274 (a proclamation of Emperor Aurelian). yet, the earliest factor out of the social gathering of Christ's beginning being on that day dates from the three hundred and sixty 5 days 202 (St. Hippolytus of Rome's statement on Daniel). of course that's nicely beforehand Constantine stumbled on the scene. Likewise, beforehand than the date said on the Philocalian calendar. So no matter if it replaced into not yet the "good" date, it replaced into already being celebrated previous to any historic factor out of Sol Invictus (et al) being celebrated on that day. that is a reliable chance, then (Roman emperors being Roman), that Aurelian tried to usurp a widely-held Christian holy day, extremely than any incorrect way round. also the Catholic church did not ought to make it less difficult for pagans to remodel with the help of overtaking the pagans' holidays. Pagans had already replacing in droves lengthy beforehand the coolest institution of the Catholic church basically depending upon the message of the gospel. ________________ @ Freedom: back with the unsubstantiated drivel? Christ has not some thing to do with Mithras. There are not any similarities that may be actual documented. Candles? extremely? Please clarify how ELSE were early Christians meant to mild their houses and assembly places? that's an absurd premise. almost each little thing you're claiming won't be able to be substantiated with the help of any historic rfile, and fantastically any alleged connections to Christianity and the practices thereof.

Christians were first called Christians at Antioch.(Acts 6:5, Acts:11:19-20,26).they were not Catholic. Last time i checked my Bible and Church History by Shelly the apostles, disciples were all Jewish and attended synagogue. Christianity was deemed a cult by Jewish Pharisees, that did not accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior or the Messiah they were looking for.
Constantine started the first "Catholic church", for peace agreements with the pagans. Constantine in becoming a Christian, also became the leader of the Roman Church and stopped the persecution of Christians. Christianity in turn became "legitimate". Prior to this, Nero was persecuting Christians and Jews, around the time of Paul's conversion, leading to the end of the Pax Roma.
The word Catholic means universal, in the teaching of the gospel that was not to be changed. Martin Luther clarified most of that, causing a split between PROTESTant and Catholic, leaving the rituals invented by the Catholic Church, but not the sacraments behind..

"Why do they think there was any "church" before this? There wasn't."
Wrong... The church of Jerusalem, formed on the day of Pentecost. That predates the catholic about 60 some odd years. This was followed by the churches in Asia minor, THEN came the churches in Europe.
All these churches had influence and sent representatives to the college in which canonized the bible.

There were plenty of religions going on, that started when people first started worshipping the moon and the sun. The bible was translated into english a number of times starting in the 1400's and the parts were picked and chosen according to what the leaders of the new churches decided was appropriate to teach. The bible that's running loose now is a horrible translation of a lot of books and it's also missing the ones that didn't fit in the way they wanted them to.

Sorry your info is wrong!!! Rome was controlled by Emperors until its downfall in 538. The emperors tried all that they could to stop the spread of Christianity. Constantine could not stop them either so he had his men baptized and called them Christians. Constantine is best remembered in modern times for the Edict of Milan in 313, which fully legalized Christianity in the Empire, for the first time, and the Council of Nicaea in 325; these actions are considered major factors in the spreading of the Christian religion. His reputation as the "first Christian Emperor" has been promulgated by historians from Lactantius and Eusebius of Caesarea to the present day, although there has been debate over the veracity of his faith. This debate stems from his continued support for pagan deities and the fact that he was baptized very close to his death. Pagan Rome is still pagan Rome with a new Pope now and then. They never did agree with the true Christian way, that's why the true Christians don't follow him.

Jesus personally founded only one church ... the one that is today known as Catholic.
All the nonsense that's gone on ever since will never alter that fact.
As for the Protestant folks who showed up 1500 years late to the party, after the whole world had already been converted for Christ, and all the hardest work had already been done ... what would you expect them to say?

The Christian Church was flourishing about 80 years before thae date you give.
There werelatge centres of Christianity at Jerusalem, Antioch, Corinth, etc.
The Bible was accepoted as canon before there was any 'Catholic Church' in the sense in whuich we use it now.....and that canon was much later.
Itis wiser to be sure that YOU know (whatever your subject) before asking "Why do **************** not know......."
