Not enough context for a proper answer. On a first guess, I would say that something in their situation is squeezing out the things in their life that they hold dearest, namely their religious beliefs and cultural traditions. You need the complete context of the sentence in order to make true sense of it.

They are too busy to worship, too busy to follow traditional customs, and too busy to for other things that are very important to them.

I'm not sure that "too busy" is right, it depends on the context of "little room". Is it self-imposed or an outside constraint. Possibly they are "not allowed".
