I also realise what the design is, but say it's from a distance and you just see that they have one. What's the first thing that would come to mind?

I love tattoos,so my first thought is to get closer and see what it is. If its something stupid or really badly done I think wow....theyre stuck with that on their body for life. If its a nice, good quality tattoo i think....wow thats awesome...I wonder where they got that done..If its a tattoo I've seen 6000000000 times before I think ..that person picked that off the wall 3 seconds before getting it, or that they just got one to be cool.
Also, for the answers above (and below) me, having them doesnt make you dirty, or an idiot, or a wanna be. people get them for different reasons, and I know plenty of sweet people with tattoos. People need to quit being so against tattoos and just accept them for what they are -- a personal choice. If you dont want one, dont get one, but dont look down on those of us who have them. We like them, and that was our choice. My tattoos dont make me dirty, my tattoos dont make me a bad person, and they sure as hell dont make me an idiot. They make me the same person I was before I got them, only a little happier that I have something on my body that I like.
I'm against mullet hair dos but I dont think everyone who has one is a dirty idiot. If I dont want to see them, I'll simply look away from the person who has it. Same with tattoos. If you dont wanna see it....don't stare at it. Simple really.

With me, it depends on where the tattoo is and how large or dark it is. If I see a lot of expressive tattoos I might think the person is an artist, but if they are also dressed like a thug I might think they are showing off, or part of a gang. So I suppose there are too many factors that go into it... maybe that means I'm more tolerant than many people? Or maybe I overthink things?

Personally, I don't care that anyone has a tattoo. They (tattoos) do not mean that they (people) are uneducated, trashy, slutty, a biker, tough guy or any other stereotype people can think up. I happen to be college educated, and own my own business. My clients don't care if I have tattoos or not. They care whether or not I can get the job done. I have 2 tatts...so far..I have lots more planned.

I have one tattoo that can only be seen by my lover, so.........I see nothing wrong with tattoos really. I love the individuality that it gives you. And when I see someone with something interesting, I have to know what it is and what it represents.
The only ones that bug me are the names. It's like c'mon, why get your man (or woman)'s name tatted on you? I love the fact that you want to show that your committed, but what happens when it's over? So in the end, "Donna" becomes a tiger. LOL! I also crack up when women get their own name tatted on them. WTF? You know your name! Don't you?

They're tough and dangerous, but might be someone who is very nice and just the opposite of your opinion. Just because they have tattoos doesn't mean that they're a bad person, they just want to express themselves on the outside with ink.

Although I do not have one, and probably never will, I like them. Most of my friends, my husband (whole back done) have them. If you get the right Tattoo artist a tattoo can come out gorgeous.

i am reallt talkative and i love tattoos. I have 3 of my own and want to learn how to tattoo. Everytime I see one I ask the person who did it, why they got it, what is means to them and why they choose it.

It really all depends on what the other person looks like...what they are wearing...where I'm seeing them........what kind of tattoos they are. How they are behaving. :)

if i see someone with a tattoo from far away i think... 'i wonder what it looks like" i want to get closer and see if it is any good or not. i want to see if it is flash. i want to see if my tattoo artist did it or not... it is hard to impress me with tattoos because i love my artist's style so much.
i hate to see flash on people
i also hate to see cheap horrible tattoos.
i DON'T stereotype people tho when i see tattoos.
