Luke 2:1-7
And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be taxed. And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:) To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

Matthew 2:1-2, 11, 22-23
Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.
...
And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him.
...
But when he heard that Archelaus did reign in Judaea in the room of his father Herod, he was afraid to go thither: notwithstanding, being warned of God in a dream, he turned aside into the parts of Galilee: And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth.

Have you heard the theory that Joseph and Mary were from Bethlehem, but later moved to Nazareth? (after Jesus was born). Of course, anybody who says that is guilty of heresy and will have to be drowned or burned at stake in the name of Jesus.

In Luke's gospel, it, "appears," to be Nazareth. In Matthew's gospel, it, "appears," to be Bethlehem. I think it is probably Capernaum. It is where Jesus appears to be living when he starts his ministries. It is where he gets his first apostles out of the local fisherman. I think that the authors of Luke and Matthew had to get Nazareth and Bethlehem into the picture to fulfill prophesies.

Nazareth. They were only in Bethlehem for the census, and coincidentally, to fulfill Scripture.

Nazareth.

They went to Bethlehem after the Roman Emperor called a census to the whole empire. Everyone had to return to thier homelands to be counted.

They lived in Nazareth, then they traveled to Bethlehem, and then they had to travel to Egypt to live for awhile, and then after Herod died they returned to Nazareth.

umm good question i think its nazareth....

i know he was born in bethlehem, lived for a year in egypt
then lived in nazareth when the wisemen came.....

but since they were going to jerusleam to pay taxees
it would make sense if they lived somewhere south of
jersulam if they lodged in bethlehem?
