It's not the oldest sweetheart.

The Catholic Church was just the first mega-church.
Did you know that? Hmmmmmm

I'm not sure exactly what your point is here, but after 2 bottles of wine and a sense of self importance I'll have a go at answering it.
The Protestant church came from Lutherian beliefs in Germany in ( I think ) the 1600's and was born from the frustration of seeing the Christian faith being complicated or use as a device for division.
It was born of Martin Luther not accepting the Catholic doctrines of that time. He rebelled against it and set up his own church. In other words he PROTESTED against the beliefs of the day and therefore set up the PROTESTANT faith.
The Protestant church is a branch of the Catholic church so if anyone tells you different they are wrong.

I cannot confirm/deny if the Catholic faith is as old as you say however according to the Religious Movements Homepage at the University of Virginia, "The apostles of Jesus Christ formed the beginnings of the Christian Church. They helped spread the Gospel and provided structure for the early Church. It is hard to differentiate the beginnings of the Roman Catholic church from that of the early Christian church. 1 The apostle, Peter, also known as Simon, was of central importance. The Church was organized and presided over by Peter. According to the Scriptures, Matthew 16:13- 19, Christ said to Peter: "And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church." 2 In 313, the Roman Catholic Church was legally recognized by the Roman Emperor Constantine, and, in 380 it became the official religion of the Roman Empire. 3 After the Church became the Roman Empire's official religion in 380, it remained united until 1054. At this time, the Eastern Orthodox Church separated from the Roman Catholic Church, which from that point on would be identified as the western Church. 10 There were many reasons for the schism, but the major issue concerned the Pope's claim of primacy. 11 The next schism that occurred in the Roman Catholic Church was in the sixteenth century, with the Protestant Reformation. 12 Roman Catholics, however, "regard the [Roman Catholic] Church under the successor of Peter as the one, universal Church; other Christians are held to be 'in a certain, although imperfect, communion with the Catholic Church.'" 13 Said differently, "for Roman Catholicism . . . the Catholic church and the Catholic tradition are normative for other Christian churches and traditions."
Therefore it may or may not be 2000 years old. However, does it really matter? Faith is the most important issue no matter what religion a person decides to follow. I firmly believe that these differences in the Christian church are of no relevance as the basic issue and teachings are the same. The only differences I see are how people go about their worship.

Yes they know. The Catholics won't let anyone forget. Being the first doesn't necessarily mean best, if that's where your headed. Hmmm let's see Catholosism prides itself on following the teachings fo Jesus. But Jesus was a rabbi, and his teachings were of the Hebrew faith, with a slant to individualism rather than being dictated to by an overbearing system of corrupted priests and temples. Sooo, wouldn't the true faith be the faith of His only son? And as far as 'translating' ... let's not forget the massive editing. Removal of entire books that conflicted with the vatican party line of the time. Excommunication if a church member has an affair, but protects the child molestors within their ranks. How many times has Rome lined its pockets by robbing distant lands and slaughtering whole civilizations. The Crusades, the rape and piliage of central and south America. Not many Inca, Aztec, or Maya running around these days. Aren't their some rules about coveting, stealing, and murder? Its no wonder that the Muslim faith bears a grudge against the west. WELL DONE!! Well done. No graven images or likenesses...Just how many relics icons, and altar trinkets bear likenesses of man and beast? Protestants pray t God through Jesus. But how many different entities do the Catholics pray to? So share some more of your superiority with us poor heathen Protestants.

So says the Catholic Church. Actually each local church was it's own authority, yes the Apostles were there to teach them and give guidance but that doesn't mean the church at Jerusalem was any more authoritative than the church in Antioch. The church in Rome was just one of a group of Christian churches that spread across the known world. It wasn't until men saw that they could get power over others that Religion was born. Before that it was just groups of believers that meet together to worship Jesus...The Catholic church is old yes, tracing it's popes through men (and women by the way) that sometimes bought their "authority".. The Catholic church's actions in "bringing Christ" to the world is at best tarnished at worst Cultic.... Jim

The Church of Jesus Christ is almost 2000 years old (1980 by some estimates, measured from Pentecost). It is made up of all those who live according to the teachings of Jesus Christ and His Apostles. Denomination does not come into it, because all true believers are heading for the same goal, to live a more Christ-like life. So, they are living more and more in accord with each other,

The Orthodox Church is older than the Catholic Church. Before the formation of the Roman Catholic Church, there were bishops in each major city. Since Rome was the capitol of the Roman Empire, the bishop at Rome was considered "the first among equals." Eventually, the Roman Catholic Church and the Orthodox churches parted ways.

I think not! All those countless millions of fundamentalist/evangelical groups seem to think that they're the only true church in the whole universe. Believe me - I've encountered many of them! They have no understanding of history. They also take the bible so literally, without analysing or questioning and regard every single word as the word of God - doesn't that make you question their intelligence?

Do you know that Christianity is older than the Catholic Church.
There were practicing Christians in the first century, who met in the temple on Sunday and in homes every day of the week.

Jewish Christians wrote the letters and gospels that are in the Bible, and it was all done before 100 AD.

You may not know, but many translations came from the original Hebrew and Greek and not from the Latin.

Most Christians realize that the RCC is old but its translating and canonizing the Bible leads people to believe that the Church was never in error. If this is the case can you explain indulgences, the Inquisition and the crusades. The reformers reformed the church, kept what was true, scriptural, a Godly and pruned the dead branches. Only scripture, only grace and only faith.

The whole point is ... Jesus founded only one church ... the same church that has been known as Catholic ... since the early 2nd century.

The same church which is known by the sacred deposit of universal truth that was handed down to it by Jesus and the apostles.

Jesus also promised to bless and keep his church until he returns for it at the end of the age.

He never promised to keep it from corruption ... even Jesus had his "Judas" ... but he did promise that the Holy Spirit would keep the Catholic Church from doctrinal error ... and consistently guide it in truth ... forever.

All this is clearly reflected in scripture.

Yet somehow, those who made up the phony rule of "Scripture Alone" can't seem to find it, and when it's pointed out to them, they can't seem to believe it.

So much for FAITH alone!
