I have always found tattoos trashy and cheap. It is like painting a flower a different color--the flower itself is beautiful and painting it only detracts from its beauty. Why is nature so inately beautiful?--it is natural and in its original state. I have often looked at a beautiful girl and admired her looks and then see a tattoo on her ankle or lower back and her beauty falls several notches. While this is not the case with everyone, I have found with students I have taught that often the ones with tattoos are the ones that were ignored at home and are now desperate to draw attention to themselves to make up for a lifetime of being ignored. It is like they are walking out into public and standing on a stool screaming "Look at me!!! Will someone pleeeeeease look at me!!!" Look at how shocking I am. Look what I've done to deface my body! Are you SHOCKED? HUH??? HUH????? Someone better look at ME!!!!!"

My best students don't need tattoos to draw attention to themselves. They let their model behavior, their natural beauty, and their intelligence speak for them, not some ink injected under their skin. Tattoos are how unimportant people make themselves appear more important to others.

I take OFFENSE at almost every answer I read.

A tattoo, done well and chosen/placed right, can be beautiful and meaningful. These people saying it's nothing but trashy don't know the history of it and probably think that any piercing not done by the "pro" at you local Clair's is bound to kill you. They don't know a damned thing if they're saying things like tats are trashy. These people will go to their grave being ignorant fools because of the way they think. Hell, I've been in tattoo/piercing shops that were cleaner than the ER last time I had to go ther *i steped on a toothpick, it was quite funny really*

Tattoos are becoming more acceptable to the general pubic because of their popularity. Of course, people that are tattooed from head to toe are still looked at as oddities, and probably always will be.

Most tattoos are seen as trashy now because of the plethora of young women getting them not to express themselves, but to draw attention to their..... lower bits......

As long as you aren't getting a butterfly on your vagina, then I don't see how they're too trashy..... but of course, how are you expressing yourself?

The only purpose I see in them is if they truthly have meaning, and not just "oh, this one was when I was with my friends on Spring Break". I want to see a tattoo of a family crest, or your son/daughter, or a symbol as pride of your heritage...... not a tribal swirl on your lower back.... something that took some research and has REAL meaning.

I think both....there are some that are in fact trashy but there are some that are very personal. I think that alot of it depends on why you are getting it....if it's to symbolize something about yourself or whatsoever, then I think it's expressive...but if it's just a design that you got say on your arm because you thought it was cool and you wanted to look cool or tough...then it's trashy or dumb.

Trashy. There's nothing more attractive in a woman than having clean, flawless skin. There's a reason why humans don't have the spots that look so well in leopards or dalmatians or any other animal for that matter. There's a reason women spend billions of dollars trying to get the brown spots out of their face, arms, and legs. What about stretch marks and cellulite? Do they look attractive? People determine whether someone is expressive or not by your personality (who you are) and not what you are wearing. Only highly insecure people need to make sure that the whole world knows about their 'tastes' (likes and dislikes). This is because they don't have a rich personality to show. Tattoos and any other material, tangible items go in and out of style all the time. What looks hot today is tomorrow's garbage. Once you have got them, you will spend more money trying to get rid of them than what you spent getting it. If you need to be noticed, then develop your personality: in other words, be mature.

depends on the tattoo....some are trashy, but some are metaphorical or important in that persons life. It just depends on the circumstance..Having a tattoo on you tramp stamp is trashy, not matter what it is

it depends on the quality of the tattoo, first of all.

i'm disgusted by people withtattoos that look like a 5 year old scratched the person with a pin, and colored over it with a sharpie.
