I just came from Jewel where I saw fresh blueberries selling for $15.00 / lb !!! Holy cow! I'm no penny pincher, but I would never buy at that price, whether out of season or not. Is this a temporary demand issue or something ?
BTW, I ended up buying frozen blueberries instead.... much cheaper but yet still very pricey.

Yes I know berries are out of season. But the current price of blueberries is just sky high. Strawberries by comparison I can get for about 1/4 the price per volume. My question is specifically about the sky high price of blueberries, relative to other berries which are more reasonable even though it is out of season.

Where do you live?!?! That is outrageous. Must be organic grown on a little farm somewhere near Macchu Picchu, blessed by Inca priests and flown in by a chartered Cessna? Blueberries don't yield the way strawberries do and have a much shorter growing season; besides that, they bruise easily during shipment. But $15 a pound is insane...

Berries of any sort are not in season right now. When stock is low, prices go up. That's probably why the were so breath taking, but there are lost of recipes you can use frozen blueberries for.

attempt to purchase your culmination and vegetables "in season" Why? they are going to be: greater fee-effective brisker much less sprayed with chemical components lots greater probably interior of sight that isn't the season for blueberries. the place I stay, in NJ, between the biggest manufacturers of blueberries, they ripen in July and the season is oftentimes approximately 3 weeks. So, throughout those 3 weeks, we savour blueberries and that i freeze as many as i can. final 12 months I iced over virtually 20 pounds so i could have blueberry pies, blueberries in yogurt, in oatmeal, smoothies, etc for the time of the wintry climate. Then blueberry season ends and we talk approximately how sturdy or undesirable this 12 months's crop became and how we watch for next years, we savour the frozen ones and start up off looking forward to the subsequent honestly extraordinary sparkling fruit basically placing out to ripen. study what's in season around you and enjoy all and sundry, freeze or safeguard your favorites. stay greater in track with your atmosphere and spend much less.

Bluberries are small.
A pound of them is A LOT.
Also, its the winter so fresh produce is more expensive because it can only be grown in warmer climates.
