First decide if you want to become a Federal, State Or Local Police Officer. There are all kinds of great opportunities out there; FBI, CIA, DOD, Border Patrol, Homeland Security and of Course the Military Police. State Troopers, and the Big city locals LAPD, CHP, NYPD, Dade County Sheriffs, Small town departments and the list is almost endless. The bigger the Department, the faster the potential for promotion and usually a bigger paycheck too. All I can say is since you are young and have college behind you, set your sights high. If you are in shape and do well in college and have no criminal record, almost every opportunity listed above is open to you. Do a web search, get a phone number to a recruiter and off you go. Good luck!

In most states the minimum age is 21. Some State Police Agencies have cadet programs that will take High School Grads and give them some experience until they can enter the academy at 21. Still other states require at least 2 years of college. Check with your High School guidance counsellor, and your state and local police departments for their minimum qualifications. Then, stay out of trouble.

Try joining local Sheriff's Cadets or Police Explorer program, maybe you dont even need Criminal Justice if you contribute time to the program. Reall, they accept usually anyone over ages 16 or 17. :) Also, find a Tech/Vocational School in your area and take Law Enforcement class. Good luck.!

1) Finish High School
2) Attend College for Criminal Justice/ Law Enforcement
3) Contact Your Local Police Department
4) They will have some more tests (physical and written) that you will need to take.

Good luck!

Each state has different requirements. You need to look at what state you would like to work in. Some departments even have different hiring standards.

Find a law enforcement agency that you would like to work for and look at their website. They should have a link to the hiring process that they use. They will give you the specifics there. Good Luck!!

you should also set up a ride along with the dept's that you want to apply too, remember it's competitive with many large dept's so build your resume carefully
