When I had mine put in I felt almost nothing just like getting a pap.The worst you might feel is a little crapping.

first off be on your menses it helps with the insertion b/c your cervix is slightly open and it will go in better. I've had the mirena before and it didn't work for me b/c i had pain and bleeding the whole time I had it (4-5) and it had to come out. Last year I got the para gard and it did not bother me at all until 2 months ago with terrible cramps and bleeding. So I had that one removed and it was removed easily b/c it was already coming out on its own. Its great having one b/c you don't worry about birth-control but my doc states IUD's are related to chronic fatigue syndrome, so now more me.

BEWARE!!! I had the Mirena and I ended up pregnant with it in.. No, it does not hurt!! But, I just found out I was pregnant 3 weeks ago.. I'm a little over 6 weeks now. I had the Mirena in for 8mo. It DID NOT slip or malfunction. It was working cause it was sent in to labs to be checked.
It take less than 5 min. for placement.. Good Luck!!

No pain involved but remember that an IUD doesn't protect against STD's and do have the highest failure rate especially in girls over 125 pounds. Always use a secondary protection(condom) when having relations outside a lasting relationship.
Everyone who reads this please keep these two things in mind:
1) all birth control is based on girls who weigh less than 125 pounds....the bigger you are the more likely the device or pill will fail. and,
2) Only condoms offer any barrier for STD's.

Really its no different than a pap smear. The only problem I had is that i had to come back later to have the little metal strings clipped and i could feel them and they kind of scratched but thats about all. I don't like how it has made me have no period bc i am constantly afraid that i might be pregnant. But my doc told me that mirena is now proven to be as affective as having your tubes tied.

If anything, there was a bit of cramping. I myself love it. The only problem I have is screwed up cycles now. Without going into details, they say after having it for a year you won't get a period and if you do it is very light and short. Mine are waaayyy diff. than that.

No pain at all, it is just a tiny T shaped piece of plastic.
