Right now I am in some sort of unspoken "race" with my 12 yr old brother to see who can get the best present for my parents. A few days ago he started insisting be buy the best present for everyone in the family (except me of course). Yesterday he bought 2 gift cards for them and he is still insisting he buy more. Today when we went shopping he bought new curtains for my mom and a rug for my dad. He almost went to staples too. I have a weird feeling that he is trying to make me feel bad because I did not & and could not (lack of time) buy my parents anything. For evidence, every time he buys a gift he keeps smirking at me. When I ask nicely to chip in into the present he said, "Get your own gift" in a smug way (I always let him chip in into my presents) . Then when I say that I want to buy a present for my parents something he gets somewhat upset and his mood changes drastically. Please tell me what i should do! I have 30hrs left till xmas. Should I try to beat him or let it be?

if you really want to beat him get them something that he cant buy anywhere... write your parents a "love" letter, believe me that is better than ANYTHING he can buy!!! :o♦

First, where is a 12 year old getting so much money? Second, how old are you? Third, it is no excuse that you had not time - you had 364 days. You knew Christmas was coming but I guess it was not important enough to you to think of your parents. If you are taking your brother to all of these places, why aren't you getting something for them at that time. I only have to figure you are older than your brother; why are you letting him dictate your life? You have one day left, you had better make the time to get your parents, and anyone else in the familiy that you want to buy for, a gift. Please don't use the excuse that you don't know what to get. You live with your family and you know their interests and hobbies. Do NOT get a gift certificate...that is so impersonal. Go to the bookstore and get books about the history of whatever their interests are. Good gift and one stop shopping.

I don't know how old you are, but if you are older, you should have more sense than to let him get to you like that. If younger, well, you still seem to have more sense than him. Christmas is not a contest. Your brother seems to be trying to "BUY" their love and admiration by having the "best" and most. Believe me, your parents will love what you get just the same and maybe better. He also knows this is getting to you so he keeps it up. When he realizes it doesn't bother you, he will stop. If you are older, get them a "night on the town". Enclose a gift certificate to a nice restaurant, tickets to a show you know they want to see and tell them you will babysit (or arrange for a sitter and pay for it) for the little monster. DO NOT even hint at what you got them. Let him be surprised too. You could even add a gift certificate to your mom's beauty salon so she can get her hair done for the event and buy a corsage for your dad to give to your mom.

well, dont try to "beat" him so to say with the amount of gifts but, dont use lack of time either because you can find time to get them something. Get them something nice. How about if you reserve and pay for a suite at a motel for a weekend. Have it paid in advance and make sure its on a weekend they will be able to go. Then, write it on a piece of paper that they have a paid motel room for just the two of them on whatever weekend and put the date on it. Along with that you could get them each a few of those shampoos and things you take for overnight stays. Get them all there hygene items they will need and put it in an overnight bag. That should make a great gift for them as a lot of marriages lack having "alone" time with your partner..

What I don't understand is where this 12 year old is getting all this money ....

Don't try to beat him at gift buying. Just get something nice for your parents ... it doesn't have to be expensive ... obviously it could be, but it doesn't have to be. And if you really don't have time to do shopping, make some coupons for ... chores around the house ... to cook dinner ... to clean up after dinner ... you probably have the idea here.

Merry Christmas ... and remember, it isn't all about STUFF

Make something nice for them. Let them know you can do some work and more than him but in a nice way and don't over-do it. Think of what they like and buy and make some little things. Also don't waste money for school and beyond. Not too much anyways

in all risk because of the fact the unique 13 colonies became self sustaining from the Empire till now Canada. And being on the same continent, it particularly is totally very nearly as though their united states replaced into 'born' first. I agree, the Commonwealth is nearly a sprint family members :)

Its probally a good idea not to compete with him because he is just trying to provoke you to get you frustrated. My sister does it to me alot and when I ignore her she stops trying to make me feel guilty or something like that because if you don't react there is no fun in trying to make you mad. And they get mad themselves.
