I want to replace my head unit to upgrade the sound system in my 2002 GMC Envoy. My vehicle comes with the Bose package so it sounds great, and better than most, but I was wondering what other brands are equal to Bose's awesome sound.

All ideas welcome, but please give reasons as to why so I can make an informed decision.

Thanks

Ariel

Unfortunately, Bose being the Juggernaut that they are, they pretty much have the audio in your car dialed in the way THEY want it and there's not much you can do about it unless you start from scratch.

The wiring uses some odd non-standard terminals, the speakers are all unusual resistance ratings (2.3 Ohms and 3 Ohms, so you can't just swap in a new head-unit) All aftermarket car audio often run 2 & 4 ohms. The Bose speakers resistance rating are to keep everything about Bose, propritory. The Bose head unit has an embedded unadjustable EQ without any pre-outputs for you to run an amplifier section to power a sub or any additional speakers.

Unfortunatly, many new car buyers fall for the high priced add on of a Bose system. When actually you could add a aftermarket system with 10 times much better sound for a lot less money than the dealer tacks on with the Bose upgraded sound package. The only sacrafice is the look of the factory dash.

well buying a new sound system is just like any other thing that you buy, you get what you pay for...more money better quality...alpine is probably your best bet but if you want a cheaper but still great quality you can go with pioneer. the only thing though is that you gmc bose stereo package probably had a pre-amp included to produce better sound so you will probably have to look into gettin a multi channel amplifier to give your speakers a little more umph and better sound quality. if youre addicted to bose they do make bose car audio and infinity would be another great brand to look into...

I replaced my production facility head unit out in my 2000 pontiac Grand Prix GTP which had the bose gadget in it. I put in a CLarion H/U and used a sort of adapters that facilitates you to keep the production facility amp. it sounds particularly large. i think of it sounds extra suitable than redoing all of it. Plus this is alot faster to do it this way too. The audio gadget are extra clearer, extra suitable highs and mine has the 6x9's have been the subs. in case you desire to call them that. yet i further a 10 inch sub for further bass with a 250 watt amp and that stepped it up alot extra.
