I'm looking for something with an easygoing kinda feel. I don't want one of those silly archaic religions that say "thou shalt not" and so on. My old religion said that I'm going to Hell, and I'd rather not have to deal with such a lousy eternity. Even Heaven sounds a little stuck-up and prissy for my tastes (for a religion that hates gays, Heaven sounds kinda, REALLY gay). So, I'm in the market for a new one, maybe for a test drive. Where do you think I should look?

It's not exactly a religion, but it may be able to meet all your needs: humanism.

well, being a buddhist myself, i can say that i've found peace, but being a part of a religion is all ur choice. atheism sounds pretty good for u too. i mean u don't believe in anything, and u won't be afraid of hell...

buddhism is pretty good. u meditate, and just close ur eyes, and feel nothing basically. you reincarnate (next life) until you reach nirvana, a stage in which i think is eternal peacefulness. no hell in buddhism. sure, if u do bad in this life, ur next life might not be so good, but then you reincarnate again and again until you become good, so there are many chances. u do not need to persuade anyone into believing buddhism. those that try to scare people into believing buddhism are not true buddhists at all. i personally don't believe that much in reincarnation; after all, being buddhism means u follow the basic teachings of buddha. and as long as u search for peace, it doesn't matter if you take part in a religion or not.

athiesm or buddhism, it's ur choice. hope u find a beginning! :-)

You really should do your own search for your own good. Examine the philosophies and doctrines of the major religions first since they provide the most available literature and books around.

In my case I dabbled in Buddhism for many years while I continued to learn more about other religions, both old and new, until I came across and stuck to the one I felt most comfortable with.

If you want to read a WIDE variety of different Sacred Scriptures, try out this website: www.reluctant-messenger.com among the others that are available in the Internet.

Good luck in your quest and Godspeed.

Peace be with you.

The best place to look is within your own ancestry and ethnicity. The oucntry of that ethnicity had an indiginous religion and THAT is the ONLY place ot look...It is there that you will find such beliefs as will befit your search.

As an example; if your of Northern european ancestry (German, Swiss, Sweedish etc.) then it is to the indiginous religion of that region you should look. If irish, then it is to the Celtic religion. If your ancestry is from Mexico, then, naturally it is the religion of THAT area, that of the Azecs to which you shoud search...and believe you me, you will find much more suitable and understandable ideas in ancestry....and will find you mind much more at east than any could imaginne.

Sounds like you're trying to make God in your image. Maybe you should just look in the mirror and pray to the image you see. The religion is called secular humanism and believe it or not it's the biggest religion in the world. So pick yourself up by the bootstraps, feel good with yourself and live for the day. By the way, if Jesus is right you'll wish you'd paid him more mind. I guess that's a risk you're willing to take. Be happy with your new god.

Sorry, bucko, but the only true God of true God is the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. You messed up...just ask God to forgive you. Heaven isn't gay. In Heaven there will not be any sexes, you see. Eternity is a wonderful place of eternal happiness and bliss. There is only one unforgivable sin. You can search all you want. you can search in vain unless you realize that Jesus is the way, the truth and the light. No man comes to the Father , but by Jesus. So wake up and smell the roses. You need to search your heart and find Jesus. He is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. He is Our Healer, Our Savior, and Our King Divine! Jesus loves you, yes He does. God gives us rules for our own good so we don't get hurt. See, He is alot smarter than us. Give Him a try. "Lean on Him when your not strong." Lord bless you.

If you don't like the "shall nots" then Christianity isn't for you. So if you're serious about belonging (?) to a religion how about looking into Islam or Hinduism. But I doubt they're "light" enough for you. Islam believes in a heaven & I would imagine they have as many rules about getting there as anyone else.

you know what? why don't you research yourself? Everyone will tell you what they think is best for you but guess what YOU YOURSELF have to find out what is best for you... Their religion is best for them and you have to find what's best for YOU.... that being said I like my religion of Hinduism because it so versatile. It doesn't really tell you what to do and what not to do and rather guide you into doing good for others. It doesn't tell you you will go to hell for cursing but rather gives a reason why it is not appropriate to curse. Besides it's also the oldest (still practiced) religion in the world. And religion is not a car. It doesn't need parts to fix and test drives... Religion is basically something you believe in and it helps you develop into a better person...............

No you like most of the world have it wrong. God doesnt hate gays. He loves gays just as he does all of us sinners, whether were saved or unsaved. It is sin that he hates! Man puts degrees on sin. But, God doesnt. Sin is sin, and the things we do in the flesh is the "fruits" of the sin nature.

Good luck on where to look! Jesus says except ye all repent ye shall all like wise perish.

Simple Put; God's way up is down on your kness. It is there that you'll find the true pathway to eternity, through Jesus, our sacrifice for sin.

I will say there are some religions that is laid back and kind of easy going. You can find them in Christianity as well.

Jesus tells us before we come to him to count the cost. He didnt tell us it would be easy going. He said we would hated and pursecuted, we would be pressured to comform to the world. We would be accused by false tails and stories.

Keep in mind that religion is mans efforts to reach God. However, Christianity is God's efforts to reach man.

I know, for I was so far down, I had to reach up to touch the bottom, and his hand reached down for me, further, than what I could reach up!

This is why I don't believe in any of the religions---People choose a particular religion because it preaches what they want to hear. My sister told me a lot about Unitarians. You might want to look one of them up in your area. They accept gays, atheists, or whatever, and don't condemn anyone for their beliefs. They pretty much spend their energy on teaching folks how to live right and do the right things.

Actually, how it will feel varies from place to place. One church on a block may be stuck-up, and the one next door very easy-going.
That said, you might try the Buddhists. They're very welcoming, it's not really a religion at all, since they don't worship a god.
