My father applied for citizenship at the beginning of world war two and traveled to Argentina in order to do so at the American embassy down there and facing not only the quota system but the chance that the Nazis occupying his home country might not give him an emigration number. Then and only then did he enter the United States to reside, and fulfill the additional hurdle that he needed to show savings (in modern dollars, about 5,000) to prove that he was not coming in to be a burden on society. He couldn't start the naturalization process because his country was occupied, and so he was considered a hostile alien. But he could be, and was, drafted into the U.S. Army. He eventually became a citizen.
I figure that the main problem Latinos have in the U.S. is that they feel they have some odd right that sets them above others and allows them to bypass the rules set down for ALL immigrants. If they dump that attitude, they'll find themselves more widely accepted. It's in the interest of legal Latinos to discourage the illegals. As long as they come here in the manner of harmful insects infesting a load of lumber, they should not expect much sympathy. This perception will definitely affect how much acceptance Latinos in general experience in this country.

Yes, it possible. I'm Latino and am anti-illegals. I have many relatives and Latino friends, some of them are legal immigrates and they too are anti-illegal immigration. I also have in=laws that came here illegally so it makes for some lively conversation after dinner and shots of tequila. Not fight yet have occurred, but some have come close.
Many illegal aliens are taken advantage of in the job marked and this hurt all working class people because it lowers the pay rate for those at the bottom of the economic pyramid. We have also seen a rise in many sicknesses that had become almost unheard of In recent years. Children are admitted to schools before their vaccination records are received and this spreads illness to our young children. They don't know the labor laws and often find themselves working in unsafe condition or are exposed to hazardous chemicals because some employers are cheap bastards will to take advantage of the uninformed so as to save a buck.

In California, the majority of those who want to fight Illegal immigrants are legal Latino's. The Hispanics who are here are hurt the most by illegal immigration, because they tend to be in the lower income range. They compete for the same jobs. The illegal immigrants give the legal latino's a bad name and lower the legal resident's salary and rights. People in the middle class and upper claesses, benefits from illegal immigrants, by having cost of services lowered by illegal immigrants.

I agree with you. The problem with illegal immigration is not that the majority of those who participate in it are Latino, but that they are breaking the law and overtaxing our social services.
Plenty of American citizens of Hispanic decent are great contributers to our society and have been for many generations, despite the obstacles of prejudice, but they came here legally for the most part, which makes all the difference.
However, Americans are going to have to understand how much of our lifestyle, i.e. cheap food prices, are at least partly because of the cheap labor provided by illegal immigrants. If there were no jobs here for them, they wouldn't come.
Further, we have to look into what role history plays in all this. How much do our foreign policy decisions have to do with the state of Mexico, such that they cannot sustain a healhy enough economy that their people can make a livelyhood there?

The two subjects are unrelated illegal immigrates come from all over the world Latinos who came here legally are not the problem . most people are willing and do treat them with the level of respect they deserve it is only when they start crying over and helping illegals that they cause problems for themselves why should they receive special privileges just because they are Latinos

Of course you can be anti-illegal immigration and not a racist against Latinos. I'm sure many legal Latino immigrants and Americans of Hispanic descent are against illegal immigration because it affects them as Americans too.

Bigotry has nothing to do with being for or against laws in general. Requiring people to abide by the law to come into a country, is asking that you be of good character not a particular nationality.
The world is full of persons who think that their case is unique, and should be moved to the front of the line, or that they shouldn't be required to wait in a line.
Join the crowd. You may be special, but so am I, and you can wait your turn.

I think so. So far, there hasn't been anything racist about anti-illegal organizations they just want to secure their borders. I'm Hispanic and I never thought of them as the KKK or anything like that.
