First off, DON'T BEG!!

Be realistic, Angel. There is a responsibilty that must be assumed here because someone has to take care of the dog. Not just this week and next week. For the rest of the dog's life.
If the dog is going to be kept inside, he must be trained not to do his business in the house. Mom sure won't like that!! So think about this too.

If you are the one that is going to take care of it, then you have got to show your parents you understand the responsibilty and are willing to take it on.

There are expenses in having a dog. There are shots that are absolutely required.

If you have a fenced in yard, then it becomes a lot easier to deal with. But if you don't, it means the dog has to be walked with a leash every time it has to go out, which can be like every 3 to 5 hours.

If you have to take a trip somewhere and can't take the dog, you will have to find someone to dogsit for you, or someone to come feed and water him, while you are gone. This sounds simple enough, but when it comes time to get it done, sometimes your friend or whoever is busy and can't deal with the dog. So now you have a bigger problem.

So there is more to it than just getting the dog.

Have you been to the library and read books about dogs? You should do your research before approaching your parents.
Can you afford to have a dog? To get a dog from a reputable shelter it will cost about $200 to $300 dollars because a dog should be spade and up to date with shots before leaving the shelter. Regular physical exams for a dog cost about $200 a year. Then you have to pay for food and monthly heartworm and flea/tick medicine.
Then think about if you will have the time for a dog. You should walk a dog at least twice a day. You will need time to play with and train the dog.
Is it legal to have a dog where you live? Is there a leash law? Have you decided the best breed of dog for you and your family?
Do your research. Know what you are talking about. Save your money. Then ask your parents to sit down and discuss it with you. Good luck.

The cold hard truth is "Your parents don't or can't or does not have the time or the means or want to take care of the now puppy which will be a "big doggy regardless the size soon after" Although ironically they may have prefered it to children ,Which by the way they may probably rather ironically one day seem
like it.I'm kidding ! No really see your parents are adults who
understand fully the responsibility of taking care of a pet such as a dog .Who cares ? When you grow up become a vet and own
two or three ! There ya go!

u cant beg for one, it doesnt work. ive tried :). but what i did do was show that i am responsible. babysit a friends dog while they are away. show how responsible u are. work hard in school and get good grades. do anything u can to prove that u deserve sumthing. and maybe when ur birthday comes around, say that the one thing u want the most is a dog. and if they say no, state all the reasons y u should have 1. good luck!

act responsible enough to let your parents know you are mature enough to take care of a dog. having a dog means feeding it twice a day, making sure there is always fresh water available. taking the dog out to potty and walk for exercise several times a day, wether the weather is nice, or even when you don't want to, for the next 10-20 years. cleaning up any mess the dog makes, wether by pooing, or chewing. you have to show them by making sure your school work is always done, your chores, don't argue with them about stuff. and know that a dog is a big commitment of money for your parents, understand if they can't afford one right now. don't get mad about it, just continue to show them your are responsible enough to have a dog until they can afford one. if you act like a big kid that's ready for a dog, then maybe they will find a way to get you one. if you are old enough first see if you can volunteer at a shelter so you can learn about dogs and what it takes to take care of one. good luck.

First of all, don't beg as it is unbecoming. Make of list of why you want a dog and what you are willing to do to contribute to the upkeep of the animal. Put it in writing so that Mom and Dad will see that you are serious and they may give it another thought. Then stick to your word!!! Happy Holidays!!!

Don't Begging only makes them want to say no even more. If you really want one, try to prove that you can take care of it. Talk reasonably with your parents and discuss how you could resolve this. Make sure you pick a good time to talk to them.
