I think we need goals. A purposes not in so many words. But if we have nothing to attain then we get bored and hopeless. It's pathetic really. So we need something to do. Have children grow them to hopefully good adults. Then take it easy and coach them on raising their children and then have some fun before we die.

Three things, Paul: 1. Learn the difference between a doctoral dissertation and a article or memoir. 2. One hoax cannot indicate the inferiority of conventional archeology, because creationists have several of their own, including Paluxy footprints, the Calaveras skull, Moab and Malachite Man, and others. More telling is how people deal with these hoaxes. When Piltdown was exposed, it stopped being used as evidence. The creationist hoaxes, however, can still be found cited as if they were real. Piltdown has been over and done with for decades, but the dishonesty of creationist hoaxes continues. 3. Bend over.

I think you have it about right. The answer is: No. But I would suggest that it is a good idea for each of us, individually, to come up with a purpose, since this will probably lead to a better, more enjoyable, life.
Life is what we make of it. I think Joseph Campbell, the religion/mythology expert, had a very good perspective on this: "Follow your bliss."

I believe that to be the most of noble purposes. However, I have never read in the obituaries "Jack Bellkin Dies for Lack of a Purpose". Have a great holiday!

Haven't you ever hoped that there was more to life than just existing? That there was a point? A purpose bigger than you? That's what religion is all about.

Who tells you to make your children happy and live long lives. Did this concept originate with you - your observation. Who tells you to make them happy. Why is happy better than sad. Why is truth better than deception or lies. Why is their welfare more important than yours. Do you put them before yourself. Where did this inclination come from? Do you think you birthed it? Why do some people abuse their children? Why do you not want to abuse them? Where did this inclination come from? Do you think it originated from you? Why do you love them instead of hate them? Where did that inclination come from? Good or evil did not originate from us. We did not create it. Who? where? what? Did you birth good? Did you birth evil. No, our common sense did not create it. Our intelligence didn't decide. It was already there. We only had to choose.

Your question makes my little islamic brain hurt. All I know is that my life has a lot of purpose because of all the "enemies" the Quran gave me.

Everywhere one seeks to produce meaning, to make the world signify, to render it visible. We are not, however, in danger of lacking meaning; quite the contrary, we are gorged with meaning and it is killing us.
