I refer to any carbonated drink by its name, that is Coke is Coke, Pepsi is Pepsi, Ginger Ale is Ginger Ale. They are all "pop", the vernacular. some say soda pop. That is a generic term for any carbonated drink and therefore indicates the desire of what kind of drink, but then one must zero in on the type wanted and the kind.

I grew up in the midwest and we called it pop. By the late 80's I was calling it soda. I still say soda, aside from an occasional slip of the tongue and say pop again. And then I kick myself.

Soda pop. Americans call it soda, while Canadians just call it pop. However, lets not forget about beer and sparkling wine, or as the mis-informed call it, Champagne. I call that booze, some prefer the term hooch.

I call it soda, but I am an oddity where I live (western NY) as most people here call it pop. Most people here believe soda is baking soda, not a carbonated beverage.

I'm from Brooklyn, NY originally and we called it soda. Then I moved to upstate New York, outside of Buffalo and they called it pop. Now I live in Florida and it's back to soda.
