You don't HAVE to have an exhaust hood over your stove and it doesn't call for a standard outlet. If you have an electric dryer in your basement, that uses 220 just like an electric stove. A gas stove needs a gas line and a standard outlet. Miss Mary is definetly wrong on the outlets for a dryer vs. a stove. Only gas stoves and gas dryers have regular outlets because they run off the gas and only need electric for the ignitors. Electric stoves and dryers need more power to run and therefore need more amps.-220 instead of standard 120

You could get a book on wiring from home depot or menards and do it yourself. It depends how nervous playing with electricity makes you. I did all the wiring in my house and as long as the power is off, it won't hurt you ! But on the other hand, if you have ANY reservations, get a pro!

Most stoves don't have to be vented. Most stove exaust fans aren't connected to the outside bu are filtered through a charcoal filter. The outlet is usually a regular plug, three pronged for grounding but not like a dryer. Yes, you can put one in the basement.

No, only electric stove is OK . Do not use anything down there that gives off fumes . Monoxide poisoning will kill you fast . Also don't use BBQ pit down there .
