Yes. Sunday was called "Sunday" because it was the day for worshipping the Sun, or the God of the Sun.

Yes, Sunday does mean day of the sun, and sun worship does pre-date Christianity. However, Christians worship on Sundays because that is the day that Jesus rose from the dead.

Yes Sunday = Sun Day and Monday = Moon Day all of the days of the weeks are named for planets or gods. Thursday is Thor's day, Wednesday is Wodin's day Saturday is Saturn's day etc.

Christmas was originally the solstice celebration for the returning Sun.

Tuesday is after a Viking Goddess I think. Tiw???

Sunday = sun-day
Monday = moon-day
The next are Viking gods and goddesses and Saturday for Saturn.

Considering all the other issues of the day, I can’t imagine God is very offended over our use of the older Gods and Goddesses for planets, days of the week rockets and so forth.

Read up on the cult of Mithras, a contending religion with early Christianity. Mithras was associated with the Sun, as a god of fire and light. See also, Ahuru Mazda and Zoroastrism.

Also, for Judiasm Saturday is sacred (holy) and Muslims consider Friday a holy day.

You are correct in your interpretation that Sunday means Day of the Sun.

Monday is Moon's Day, by the way. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday all come from Norse Gods and Goddesses - specifically Tiu, Goddess, Wotan, God, Thor, God, and Freya, Goddess.

And Saturday is Saturn's Day. Saturn being the Roman God of the Harvest.

The names of these days pre-date Christianity and its beliefs.

Yeah, sun worship was one of the earliest religions. Good idea, seeing as how the sun provides so much energy for our world to run on, eh?
